This month and next, five Costa Crociere ships are sailing from Italy’s Savona Palacrociere on Atlantic crossings bound for seasonal deployment in the Caribbean and South America.
Before departing for South America, Costa Romantica is undergoing a routine drydock refurbishment in Genoa. Begun today, the nearly €5m docking will continue until Nov. 20 and includes both engine and hotel work.
Costa Romantica and Costa Fortuna will reposition to Santos, Brazil, for the South American season, with Costa Fortuna’s deployment boosting the line’s capacity on the Southern continent by 20%.
Three other ships will operate from the Caribbean. Costa Magica, which sailed from Savona last Thursday, will begin its Fort Lauderdale-based program on Nov. 19. Costa Mediterranea departs Italy on Nov. 17 and will reach its winter base of Fort Lauderdale on Dec. 2. Costa Atlantica will sail Dec. 3, headed to the Dominican Republic.
The trio of Caribbean ships will offer mainly seven-day cruises throughout the winter. All will feature at least one new route, including destinations such as St. Bart’s, the Roatán Islands, Grand Turk and Belize City.
Throughout the winter, Savona Palacrociere will continue to serve as the base for Costa Concordia, Costa Victoria and Costa Europa as they operate 43 cruises bound for Egypt, Libya and the Canary Islands.
