Grew up in OC during the summer time.  We loved it!!!  Now, it has become very, very touristy and very, very crowded.  But, still a great place to hang out.  The boardwalk is huge.  Many, many good places to eat.  The beach will be extremely crowded.  I prefer the beaches in Delaware myself.  Less crowded, less touristy, not as many young teens running around causing a raucous.

Dewey Beach in DE is more the gay/lesbian community (referring to the other thread you had asked about).  Rehoboth Beach is typically filled with ton of families.  And, the boardwalk in OC can be reached in about 40-45 minutes from Rehoboth.  Also Bethany Beach in DE is very, very nice.  Even more families.

So, it depends on what you like to do.  Party and go, go, go for a week?  Ocean City.  Do you have a family and like some more quiet beach time?  Definitely Delaware.  But, you can beach it quietly in DE and go party in OC very easily.  They are all quite close to each other.

I know you didn't ask, but Virgina Beach is kinda neat. Yeah, it's busy and touristy. But the beacch is great and the boardwalk is huge. We did 2 week long vacations down there, one with the kids, and had a great time.

It's been a while, but Bill and I used to head up to VA beach when we lived in NC. I think it might be a little too far for what we have planned this year, but definitely an option for the future. Thanks for the suggestion! We'd also like to get back down to the Outer Banks one of these days!

2Cruise~We're leaning towards Ocean City, since there seems to be more bay front rentals available (we need a boat slip). One of the places we are considering is on the bay at 94th steet. The other is around 102nd (Old Landing Rd). They are close to the Clarion Fountainbleau Hotel and the Ocean Plaza Mall shopping area. Are you familiar with this area? If so, how is it? Are there any areas that should be avoided, in your opinion? Thanks!:big grin:

I stayed at 72nd and the bay.  Very nice, and not too bad a walk to the beach.  Thank God no kids at the time!

Update~We've narrowed it down to 2 places. Both in the Caine Keys section. The first is on Old Landing Rd and the other is on Channel Buoy Road. Closest beaches are at 94th and 112th. Any one stayed in this area or have any info? It's further north than the main strip and boardwalk, which imo, might be a good thing!
