Having no idea what the F3s have in store for us. Not sure I ever wanted to cruise on anything that big with that many passengers. SomehowI know I will find myself booked on this cruise if posible. It started with the Jewel, then the Pearl, and last year the Gem that I ended up on the first crossing. Hate to break a perfect string.
This should be an intersting thread over the next 18 months as the details roll out. They must be planning something special for these ships with an entire marketing orginazation dedicated to the F3s
As the company prepares for the successful launch of its two new F3 ships, NCL is assembling a dedicated team who will be responsible for the planning and launch of these ships. Amy Hiles-Maynard, currently NCL's vice president of marketing, has been named vice president, F3 marketing. Amy is well-suited for this position having worked on a number of new generation ship launches during her 20-year marketing career, along with the successful launch of NCL's new brand identity. A search is underway for a vice president, marketing to replace Amy in her current role overseeing marketing efforts for the existing NCL fleet and brand.
NCL's Vice President of Corporate Communications and Media Promotions Susan Robison has been named vice president, F3 public relations. In this new role, Susan will draw on her experience of launching nine new NCL ships during her seven years with the company, including the recent very successful launch of Norwegian Gem, along with her more than 18 years of experience in public relations. NCL's Director of Public Relations AnneMarie Mathews will assume responsibility for the public relations department.

Funny that you say you are not sure if you wanted to ever cruise on anything that big
I remember feeling that way years ago. We went from cruising on the Regency REGENT SUN at 25,500 tons to the Carnival FASCINATION at 70,000 tons and each ship since has gotten bigger and bigger
I sure hope you get to cruise on the TA and let us read about the crossing

How big are these new ships going to be? Any idea yet of what amenities (bowling alley?) there might be?

It's really funny as I was thinking of you and this EXACT thing yesterday. I've loved your blogs in the past and would definately consider actually being there.
I just wouldn't want to see you get people in trouble by reporting them.

I remember the first time I was on the Windward 39,000 tons in 1993 and thought it was massive until I looked across the San Juan harbour at The Monarch of The Seas 75,000 tons and said that is far too big Last edited on Sun Mar 2nd, 2008 05:02 pm by shoreguy

Funny, I always remember the Royal Carib ships in port with us were always larger than the ships we were on.
I think the GEM was large enough IMHO.
If they get too much bigger, we will need the people movers like the ones they have at Newark Airport

| I took a picture of a truck loading provisions onto the Starward in 1988 just to show people how huge the ship was in comparison.

No idea what surprises NCL has in store for us. They have been very hush hush about the F3s. How big - SOOOOOO BIG
150,000 gross tons - more the have again the size of the Gem. About 10,00 tons smaller the The Freedom of the Seas and 12,000 tons larger then the Voyager class ships.

Dave and I were talking about this yesterday. We would join you.
It would be nice to receive more information about the ship and watch it being built, but I guess in due time.

I was beginning to think I was on your "blocked senders list" Thank you for your reply. Most people come to you when they have an NCL question. You probably have the most experience.
Larger than the Voyager class - may not be a bad thing, there would be more room for dinning venues. We have only been on the Dawn once, five times on RCCL and once on Costa.
We loved the various restaurants on the Dawn although it was hard to get a seat without contacting Claudio first.
What would be great (and I don't know if it would be allowed) would be to do a Mediterranean cruise followed by a Transatlantic if it was early enough in the season and wasn't too cold coming across.

Funny you should say that - google F3 some of what you get:
USS F-3 (SS-22), F-class submarine of the United States Navy
F-3 Demon, a carrier based jet fighter
F³ (Frantic, Frustrated and Female),

An excellent idea Dave . You never know. We haven't done a TA since we took the Maiden TA voyage of the Norwegian SKY aka Pride of Aloha soon to be not sure what she will be called.

We may have to move this to 2010 - Akers reported a very weak 4th quarter and troubling information like unacceptable quality and delays
The company cites access to qualified personnel as a key focus in most countries where it operates. The Finnish operations are still suffering from ‘high pressure on subcontractors,’ the builder reports, including a stretched suppliers market causing delays, and a number of deliveries from suppliers are still suffering from unacceptable quality

I agree - But Celebrity has booked all the slots for years for the Solstice class of ship they are rollong out Would have been a great size for NCL. A bit bigger 122,000 tons then the Jewel class but still able to be built at the quality yard in Germany.

A teaser on the F3
Colin Veitch tantalized the media with a few morsels of information.
The design will continue the most successful elements of Freestyle Cruising, including the exclusive Courtyard Villas, a concept that will be expanded, Veitch said.
Otherwise, the ships will have no main dining room, no theater, no Lido Café and be ‘without a traditional cruise ship cabin,’ he added.
I guess I need to update the year for this cruise
Delivering from Aker Yards France in March and October 2010, the F3 newbuilds will add a total of 8,400 lower berths

I would start to worry when they begin to claim a new "unsinkable" design

If it is, they are moving the Courtyard to the bow ...can you imagine the view and more from there!!! Would it be a 3 story Courtyard? I wonder...
