Child-Free Romance on the High Seas
Moonlit strolls on deck, dining under the stars and private Jacuzzi
baths await passengers of P&O Cruises Arcadia.
Romantic reasons to cruise on Arcadia include specially designed
Couples Spa Rooms, where passengers can be professionally relaxed
together. Full body massages, reflexology and hot poultice therapies
are among the treatments couples can enjoy together in the private
rooms of Britain's largest spa at sea. Those looking for a more
intimate pampering experience can opt for Arcadia's private Jacuzzi
baths which can be found in every suite and mini-suite.
When it comes to romantic dinners, Arcadia will offer a choice of six
alternative dining options including Asian and Oriental fusion
restaurant 'The Orchid' with panoramic views across the ocean. Gary
Rhodes' newest restaurant, Arcadian Rhodes, offers British cuisine
with a modern twist and is developed exclusively for P&O Cruises.
Passionate passengers can also order room service and eat on a private
balcony under the stars, with meals included in the ticket price.
Philip Price, Head of Brand Marketing for P&O Cruises says,
"Cruise holidays are synonymous with romance and relaxation. Arcadia
takes this one step further with her child-free status and her focus
on creative ways couples can enjoy their time together. Arcadia will be
set apart from other cruise ships by the contemporary cruise experience she offers, making every day feel like Valentine's Day."
Destinations on Arcadia's 2006 itinerary include the Mediterranean,
Atlantic Isles, Baltic, Norwegian Fjords, the USA, the Caribbean and
Central America. Next Valentine's Day, Arcadia will be on a 15-night
'Caribbean Classic' voyage from New Orleans to Barbados, calling at
Key West, San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Sty. Lucia, Mayreau, Tobago
and Trinidad.Last edited on Tue Jun 20th, 2006 11:36 pm by OceanGirl

Thomson to launch kids-free cruising
• Is a child-free ship your idea of holiday heaven?
Travel company Thomson is to launch a child-free cruising experience, and is to make some of the cruises on its less mainstream routes adults-only from next year.
Their ship The Calypso, which holds just under 500 passengers, will be offering a child-free itinerary to customers choosing to cruise around the Black Sea from Spring 2007.
A spokesperson for Thomson said that the size of the ship would enable it to venture off the beaten track and cruise to lesser-known gems such as the Corinth Canal in southern Greece.
__________________________________________________
The ship boasts four lounges and bars, including the show lounge, two restaurants, casino, library and card room with an internet café, shopping arcade and boutique, hair and beauty salon, fitness centre with sauna, gym and massage.
The on-board entertainment will reflect the more mature approach to the cruise, typical West End-type shows being eschewed in favour of repertory theatre and drama, with a line-up of guest lecturers, lifestyle classes and even live classical concerts.

Intriging, but not for me. On the Serenade which was a cruise with under 10 children on board because it was 14 day in the Canal in April, the kids area was empty. Good for us, the water slide was open to adults and we used it.
If you pick the right time of year and length it will be very child free.

| I agree. I like cruising in early December and there are very few kids on board. Nice and quite.

One time a few years ago, I made the very stupid error of cruising on Easter week. BIG MISTAKE! There were 800+ kids on board! It was the worst cruise I have ever been on. Lesson learned---never again cruise on holiday sailings, or in the summer.
On my last cruise, this past March, we went 2 weeks before Easter and it was heavenly! There were only 50 kids on board and we hardly noticed them. Either they were very well behaved, or they were busy in the Kids' Programs! Either way, it was great!!

BIG NEWS!!!
Celebrity Cruises introduces "Celebrity Escape" for adults only
Travelers interested in vacationing without the kids have a series of new options from Celebrity Cruises, with the introduction of "Celebrity Escape" sailings, four Celebrity cruises this year that have been reserved exclusively for adult guests ages 21 and older. These sailings will offer the same service, cuisine, and entertainment that is offered on every Celebrity cruise; the only difference is that there will be no children onboard. This year's "Celebrity Escape" itineraries include an 11-night Caribbean voyage on the Millennium departing roundtrip from Ft. Lauderdale on September 23; a seven-night Western Caribbean cruise on the Mercury departing roundtrip from Miami on October 25; a seven-night Western Caribbean cruise on the Horizon departing roundtrip from Tampa on November 17; and a 10-night Hawaii cruise on the Infinity departing Honolulu on November 28.

Whether you're a young honeymooner in search of undisturbed romance, an empty nester celebrating retirement or a parent that just needs a break from your own little angels, you may be considering a child-free vacation. Though families are hitting the road more than ever, couples and singles still make up the bulk of American travelers, according to the Travel Industry Association of America, and there's plenty you can do to make the grownups-only vacation you're dreaming of into a reality.
When to Go
If possible, plan your trip to avoid school holidays like summer, Christmas/New Year's and Easter. September is often an ideal time to travel, with kids back in school and balmy temperatures lingering in many parts of the Northern Hemisphere.
Though cruises are becoming an increasingly family-friendly vacation option (particularly on mass-market cruise lines like Carnival, Royal Caribbean and NCL), there are still plenty of ships where you won't have to worry about being splashed every time you walk out on the pool deck. Try an upscale luxury line, or, at the opposite extreme, the brand-new (but hardly luxurious) easyCruise, which doesn't allow kids under 18, and draws a young crowd in their 20's, 30's and 40's. British P&O Cruises offers adults-only sailings on its newest ship, Arcadia. Alaska, Canada/New England, and more exotic destinations like Tahiti and South America tend to draw older, more sedate crowds than family meccas like the Caribbean and the Mexican Riviera. You'll also see fewer kids if you book a longer cruise (more than seven nights). As with on-land restaurants, you'll see fewer kids if you choose the late seating at dinner. For more on child-free cruising, see Holiday Travel -- Avoiding Kids.

| I've cruised in January and it really seemed like there were very few kids then. You just have to watch out for people taking advantage of the MLK holiday and extending it a bit to cruise.

And also, keep in mind the high number of families that home school their kids, so they go at any time.... :out of it:

| What a GREAT idea. Please post this on the darkside, so that the numbskulls who cruise on Carnival or RCL over Spring break will stop whining about all the kids onboard. Duh, what a surprise.

Just another point of view from a DINK......maybe a lot of first-time cruisers really don't have any idea about how many kids there are on cruise ships. Then, they get on RCCL, Carnival, NCL...and BOOM! 500 kids running around.
A lot of folks might pick holiday sailings, or in the summer because of their jobs. I wonder if a lot of TA's warn people going without children on holiday weeks that there will be a ton of kids on board? Probably not many. And for those that book directly with the cruise line, I really doubt they make the disclaimer that "there will be hundreds of kids " onboard.
And some of those lines listed above are European cruise lines that don't advertise here in the US. So, for novice cruisers, it might be difficult for them to actually find out about the child-free options.
I am pleasantly surprised about Celebrity!!! I knew I liked them!!! :dude:

Can I book an adults-only cruise?
Crystal Harmony, don't cater to children; while others, including all three Windstar ships, actually discourage parents from bringing their children along. Though this doesn’t guarantee a child-free cruise, it does greatly reduce the number of children onboard. You may want to read the Family sections of the cruise ship reviews to see which ships do, and don’t, cater to children.
Here's a nice looking child-free cruise for 08:
SAIL A "CHILDFREE" CARIBBEAN CRUISE WITH
Sunday, May 25, 2008 - Saturday, May 31, 2008 Memorial Day Week
If you've never felt weathered teakwood beneath your bare feet, now's your chance. On Windjammer, spacious decks are a focal point of activity. It's where ship-mates gather to lounge, sunbathe, read, socialize, dance and party from sun-up to sundown. Above all, the atmosphere onboard is casual and comfortable - a place where you can let your hair down. Once the ship sets sail, it's all about relaxing and getting into the down-island groove. Any pretenses are quickly forgotten, and a familiar sense of camaraderie soon develops among adult passengers. Please know that while this is a vacation from the "wee ones", it's not about getting together with a group who hates children. Many "childfree" people like kids, they just choose not to have them. And remember that while I can insure that the ship is adult-only, inhabited islands offer no such guarantee!

A Child Free Travel Agency
Have you ever had a trip ruined because a baby cried all night, right next door to your hotel room? Or has your romantic candlelit dinner for two in a posh resort restaurant been tainted by a whining 4 year old? Have you wished for a trip without children, but didn’t know where to turn?
Then perhaps you need a little help planning an ideal child free vacation!
Elena Mathis at Child Free Travel has owned her own travel agency, The Vacation Consultant, for three years. As her friends began to start families, Elena realized her life wasn’t following the same path. The epiphany that followed led her to a new business venture.
While there are some “adult-only” sections in a few travel agencies, Elena’s agency focuses exclusively on child free travel. “I am child free myself,” she says, “and I completely relate to my clients. There are no judgments or questions – just the desire to plan the best ‘child free’ vacation possible.”
Child Free Travel’s typical clients are people who are looking for an escape. “I have interest from couples who don’t want kids, some singles who don’t plan on having kids, and some parents with adult children who are just over the ‘kid thing.’ I have found that the concept is more appreciated than one might expect.”
Elena acknowledges that it has been a challenge to find places to book child free vacations outside of Mexico and the Caribbean. “On one hand this wasn’t a bad thing, because those are the areas where I am the most familiar. On the other hand, I didn’t just want to give the child free a small portion of the world. I was able to find a property on Maui that goes ‘child free’ two months out of the year.” She has also found places in Australia and Fiji.
So far, she has quite an extensive list of vacations she has planned for clients, including the Caribbean, Mexico, Florida, Hawaii, Australia, Tahiti, and Europe. She has also sent people on cruises.

| A child free travel agency is very unique! There are many singles and couples out there who prefer a child free vacation. Even though I have kids of my own, I would love to try this type of vacation/cruise someday.

A few years ago, DH & I had the pleasure of a long weekend getaway to Barbados. I chose the Almond Beach Club - adults only. So peaceful, so relaxing. We had a lot of quality time for a change & really got to enjoy each other again.
Plus I didn't have to see other kiddies having fun & then end up missing my own... .

I think there is a misconception that most or all child-free folks hate children. That's not true. I think the above quote sums it up perfectly:
Please know that while this is a vacation from the "wee ones", it's not about getting together with a group who hates children. Many "childfree" people like kids, they just choose not to have them.
