Anyone with any experience on a GCT Egypt tour? We're booked on GCT departing April 18, 2009.

My first riverboat cruise. We'll be sailing on the MS Anuket.

Anyone have anything good, bad, or indifferent to say? Not much chatter on riverboats.

I envy you your trip! I'd love to see Egypt. Maybe we can all live vicariously through your eyes. Enjoy!

That's cool! It's nice to be able to put a face with a name too!

Honestly, the only river cruise I ever did was on our boat and once on a steamboat on the Missouri River for my daughter's birthday a loooong time ago. This looks like sooo much more fun!

Although that isn't anything like what you're planning, there is one thing that I think will be similar. You get a much different look at the country and how the people live on the river than you would get from the road. Lots more wildlife too.

I would too.  I am just a little leery right now about going over that way, due to so much unrest and hatred of Americans............

We did a riverboat cruise of the Nile two years ago.  It was WONDERFUL!  Just the right amount of relaxing between tours.  I still tell people that i felt like I was floating through a copy of a National Geographic magazine.

Ginny, will you be going to see Abu Simbel while you're there? This is one I'd really love to visit and I understand from reading a travel blog that it's well worth the trip.

Abu Simbel was very cool, even more impressive is the fact that they took it apart piece by piece and put it back together on higher ground when the built the Aswan Dam.  You would never know it unless a guide pointed out some of the tell tale signs.

Deb, I remember seeing pictures of the pieces. Amazing work and it still looks good, at least in pictures.

Absolutely fantastic pictures! Thanks Deb! You really captured it all . . . the landscape, the people, Egypt's present and past.

Thanks.  The people there were amazingly friendly and were always waving to us and smiling.  Seeing life on the Nile was so much better than just taking a bus from site to site where we would have missed that.

Thanks.  It took only a year and a half to post them!  Next up will be Hawaii and the Crown Princess cruise from last year.
