I am interested in a forum for singles traveling alone.   I used to travel a lot by myself and had a great time!   I will be adding links and info on this thread that will be useful to all the folks here that might be traveling solo.

Any other solo cruisers, please feel free to post any info/tips you may have!!!

I've only cruised solo once and that was because my roommate backed out at the last minute. Since I was alone, although cruising with a group, I was always aware of my surroundings when I went to my cabin at night. On tours, I stuck with the cruiseline's tours and made friends with others from the ship while on those tours. I was never really alone except at night and felt safer.  Besides, my best friend and her husband were on that cruise and he felt like my big brother, kind of watching out for me!

I have never cruised solo before, but it something that I think I would really enjoy.  I am one of those people who likes to go off on their own and do their own thing.  However, when  I am with someone else,  I become self-conscious and do whatever they want to do even if it is something I hate because I am afraid they will be bored with what I want to do.  (I know it is all in my head!)  I think I would like to cruise solo but with a group.  You know, leave the hubby behind and cruise with the S&Sers...that's my kind of vacation!  But I don't think I would comfortable cruising COMPLETELY by myself!

I too, cruised solo once as a result of my roomie backing out at the last minute.  I was on the Saints and Sinners first cruise, so I was never really alone.  It was a great cruise!!!  I would not hesitate to do it again, but I don't know if I would do it without cruising with a group....

I've cruised solo quite a bit, either entirely alone or with a group/family/whatever.  I have no problem cruising alone, but it is more fun to cruise with a group.

Even on CC the forums don't have much traffic.   I think there just aren't that many people who cruise solo and wind up on the boards.

My first cruise, and only to date, was as a single.  I went to do something different and to get away from everything and everybody...especially my young adult kids!:D  I had a great time by myself...but all I wanted to do was relax, read, and destress from my day to day routine.  Whjen I pulled up at the pport in Mobile the lady officer doing the initial vehicle screening and asking questions as you entered the terminal asked me who I was traveling with...I said no one, just me, and she said "Aww, I'm sorry, I hope you have a nice cruise anyway."  I thought WTF???...that is a great way to greet folks...anyway, my first nite in the dining room I was the first one to get to my table...a LARGE table for about a hundred...well, it seemed like it would hold a hundred while I was sittiing there alone waiting to see if anyone else would show up, but actually it was probably for 10 or so.  A family group sitting at an adjacent table happened to have an open seat so they asked me to join them.  I refused at first because they were a family group; cousins, in-laws, etc.  They finally got me to join them and I had a great time with them every night.  Theywere a lot of fun and had no problem letting me join in with them and I did not feel like I was intruding...they were great people.  (A few finally did show up at my original table but I stayed with the fun folks!)  I turned down numerous offers to join them for other things because I didn't want to intrude too much on their family time.  Would I do it again?  I am...in Sept....no group...and no traveling companion.  I'll do what I want, when I want, and have a great time.  This is my "down time" vacation.  I'll cruise as a single again in January, but as part of a group so that will be a little different type of vacation.  I like to do both...but I have no problem doing something like that alone.  Of course I am a guy...:P...and being 6'3" and in reasonable good condition for an old man of 51, I feel safe in almost any situation.

OMG!  That is hysterical!!!!!!

I think more cruise lines ought to have single cabins for single travelers and not charge them so darn much for a single supplement!

Escapes for women
Travel companies create specialized opportunities for female-only niche

Reasons vary, but increasingly women are choosing to take vacations that exclude those carrying the Y chromosome and tour companies, hotels, and lodges are lining up to cater to their desires. Travel experts are hard-pressed to deliver statistics on the women-only portion of their industry, but say it is becoming increasingly important. Marybeth Bond, an author of seven books on women and travel estimated the number of companies that run only tours for women is now about 30, up from 21 five years ago. And hotels and lodges offer all kinds of women's-only packages ranging from celebrating wedding to learning or improving skills like skiing or painting.
Lalia Rach, dean of the Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Management at New York University, said women have more money and freedom than they've ever had before, so failing to address their cravings is simply bad business.
Women's only tours fill a niche for females who lack traveling partners and don't enjoy solo vacations yet don't want to risk booking a package that could be loaded with couples or lecherous singles. And since women tend to plan the family vacations, creating specialized opportunities for them is a great way to reach the decisionmaker, tourism experts said.

I've never cruised, or vacationed for that matter, alone but I think I would love it and if I was going to vacation alone, it would be a cruise.  Thanks for starting this thread.

SP,
Before I got married, I did quite a bit of solo traveling. I think it's great if someone feels comfortable doing it---go for it, I say!! :cheer:

I went to Perth, Australia for the '87 America's Cup races...boy, was that a good time!

Being a solo in a group actually worked well for me. When I wanted company, there were plenty of people on board to spend some time with and get to know better. When I wanted to do things on my own, it was no problem.

I would LOVE to take a cruise by myself. (I'm a wife & mother 365 days a year.)

How great would it be to be alone for a week, do whatever you feel like, meet new people, control the remote, dance all night, sleep late, read a book uninterrupted, eat all the wrong foods, hog all the bed pillows, sneak in bids at the art auction, totally relax for seven days...

Sigh.
