York split systems. Two tons (24,000btu/hr) central A/C units. Necessary in the Caribbean to avoid pig-like sweating!

Don't you just love it when big corporations make careless mistakes in public? Since I cruise in November I sure hope I don't have to wait for an extra day in September! This was up all day....I can't believe nobody noticed it and fixed it...

I think I found the reason why so many of us claim the Dawn as their favorite!
Even on a BAD mushroom day, rest assured we can find our way home!

Yet another reason to visit Bermuda. Still considering NCL Dawn in October 09.

The last incident in 2006 was just like that. I did not see the bolt but the sparks from it fell around me and the shock was incredibly strong like when you hit your funny bone but 1000x worse and from head to toe! I was defauling a large bilge strainer when it hit and was lying in a foot of water at the time and thought for sure I was going to drown as I could feel myself passing out with my face nearly in the water.

Nice shot on water! I've had them hit even closer to me while on a dinghy. The flash is orange from the sodium in the saltwater and the misty breeze is warm like that feeling when you really cut yourself and you feel blood running down your face.

That would be the rare gigabolt which can lay one on their ass miles away picking its destructive path along buried paths in the ground.
I've yet to capture one as a still in the open but this is what it looks like fairly close:

In 1993 while filming severe weather cloud formations (the early development of a tornadic vortex directly overhead) a gigabolt struck the neighboring building and electrified the doorframe I was standing in sufficiently to send a streamer into my left arm, through my body and into the video camera I was holding. My fingerprints were burned into that camera. The tape had to be mechanically extracted and shortly after doing so I was anxious to see what I captured. I was frantically trying to get a free 8mm deck and pulled out an a/v cart and begain unplugging patch cords from the bay when I felt it again! Sparks jumped from the connectors to my hands holdhing the cables at the same time I heard another explosion outside! Yet another bolt struck and lit up the CATV feeds! So I thought three strikes and you're out so I sat down for a while.
When I finally watched the tape it was like watching one of those videos from the Iraq war. A camera mounted on a missile where you see video until it reaches its target then you see snow. So if it killed me that's all that would have showed up!
Since it's so hard to predict when the lightning is going to strike the next step is to be able to do it by pushing a button. Triggered lightning is nothing new. NASA has been doing it at Wallops for years with rockets with wires. The new way is to create a plasma trail with a powerful laser. Basically you shoot at the cloud and it shoots back!
