Beautiful cloud formation in the Atlantic.  Wind and swell increasing.  Too bad it means necessary roughness but I love it!

Moon setting early in the morning.  There was no perfect termination due to clouds and most don't know that the moon turns fire red just as the sun before setting!

"Orange Moon" is most recalled at early moonrise and lunar eclipses which can be beautiful on their own.

Unfortunately it is not.  Celestial events need clear skies like this and whenever I prepare for them with gear ready it rains or storms even.  Then it becomes a storm chase!

But I've seen them in person both solar and lunars.  On May 10, 1994 I recorded a full solar that blew that picture away.  The video is so "hot" that playing it back (about an hour long) WILL damage most projection TV's!

Cumulonimbus cloud (thunderhead) near Samana, DR taken just before dinner on Nov 05, 2008:

This was an active system putting bolts across blue sky.  I was in the Spinnaker at the time this was occurring WITHOUT my camera bag and (of course!) by the time I return to my cabin and get set up it turns into a mess.

Tell me about the Quiet Zone............is it on all NCL ships?  If so, I might be tempted to try NCL again!

It's a place to relax, enjoy a book or fire up the ipod and catch some sun - away from the hustle and bustle around the pool. Chair hoggers, loud talkers and frequent farters are definitely not welcome in these areas!

Could not tell you if it's on other ships but I would be willing to bet a resounding yes.  No real set age limit in stone but you won't find many youngin's around there.  It's a place that adjusts itself if you know what I mean.

Tendering at Great Stirrup Cay.

Very nice (calm) seas!

Those (SS Norway) tenders just keep going and going...

Yep!  Probably saves money since the tenders don't need a dock to tie up to like the ship's tenders.

I can't take credit for this picture but it makes wintry weather look great - I just wish that snow would only land on grass and other scenery :big grin:

Oh no, not snow!  My eyes!  My eyes!  Turn it off!

I'd rather be looking at scenery like this!

Lava lather: Pro surfer C J Kanuha paddles towards the lava spilling out of the Kilauea volcano on Big Island...July 9, 2008

Tell most people a volcano is erupting and you can bet most of them will start running in the opposite direction before you finish the sentence.

But not in the case of pro-surfer C J Kanuha, who grabbed his board and paddled out to sea to get a closer look as the lava of the world's most active volcano, Kilauea, hit the waters.

Tentative at first, the adrenalin-junkie paddled to within 20ft of the lava, before moving back from water that reached 200C in places, melting the wax on his surfboard and burning his feet in the process.

Very interesting photo! I think most of us though would rather see it from a safe distance. Burned his feet! Ouch!
