Thank you.  Just hope the plane takes off Wed monring before the remnants of Faye get up here - that's right around the time we start expecting to get that stuff.

Everyone behave while I'm in CT...Rich - can you work on making it a little warmer than mid 70's next week up north. I might need to bring a sweater!

Morning.

Erby, I'll see what I can do, but I'm busy trying to steer Gustav away from the gulf.

Rich,
I don't have the energy to go back and re-read this whole thread. Will there by anyone besides you and erby that I "know" on this cruise?

We're trying to figure our DH's work schedule for next year.  He has to attend 2 medical seminars, required by the FDA.  One meeting is in NYC in May (if we go to this one, then we can't do the cruise). There is another meeting in Cape Cod in July (I am worried it will be SWAMPED with families with small kids everywhere), and an Alaska cruise on the Mercury in August.

What do you know about the Mercury?  An older ship, I think, right?  Heard any pro's/con's about it?

What do you think about Cape Cod the week of the 4th of July?

Denise, Weather Mermaid, Mach II (& Mach I), Cruisin' Halibuts are all going...don't know if you know any of them.

I haven't sailed on Mercury since she was new, and loved it. I haven't heard any complaints about it, but it is older.

Cape Cod July 4th week? Wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole, but that's me. It'll probably be a zoo down there, and traffic tends to be a nightmare getting on & off the Cape, but based on the schedule that you sent, you might be able to avoid a lot of it going down...not necessarily coming back, though, unless you stayed an extra few days.

Thanks, Rich.  That's what I was thinking   We would be leaving the Cape on the 4th of July morning to catch a morning flight from PVD.  I wsa kinda thinking that all the traffic would be going IN to the Cape, not OUT of the Cape that morning.   Or do you think the traffic leaving going towards PVD would be bad, too?

For some reason I thought the 4th was on Tuesday.  Since it's a Saturday, it shouldn't be too bad coming off the Cape.

Denise:

I grew up on the Cape in South Yarmouth and on the 4th of July you don't leave the neighborhood. Walk to the beach and BBQ.

The bad part part also is God forbid it rains all ya got is the movies and the Cape Cod Mall

I knew people who actually left on that weekend

My family is there now and they said its been a so so summer there weather wise...Not getting up there this year lost time from work for the hip replacement and you know I have to keep my cruise vacations

Fond memories of the Egg and I on Main St in Hyannis at 3A in the morning....Lots of war stories

If its forcasted to be raining Friday and Saturday a bunch will leave Friday afternoon, If not you get the exit rush Saturday AM. Me I take Rt 6 to the Bouyrne Bridge then 495 to 95 to Warwick. I find it better than the Sagamore Bridge to 25 to 195(remember lots of New Yorkers and Connecticut peeps come down and thats how they return) Travel tiome to TF Green airport from exit 7 on the Mid Cape a good 2 1/2 hours

YIKES!!!!!!   2 1/2 hrs!!!!!

and people will be leaving the Cape on the morning of the 4th of July??

The reason we want to leave on Sat (July 4th) morning to come back home is that our city has a HUGE fireworks display and we have a house on the Intracoastal Waterway directly across from the 400 yr old fort, where they fire them off! We always love our front row seats for the fireworks!!! :proud:

Heck yeah.
It all within the  rental period and I mean House rentals the last week of June is still kinda the low season......In Reality the July 4th w/e week starts the summer season, so peeps will rent the last 2 weeks of June to get a lower rental rate.. The more I thought I agree there will be a less exodus but still one. It takes 1.5 hours from exit 7 mid cape to the 195/95 junction another 15 to the airport exit and 5 minutes off the airport exit to the airport (Post Road) Man what a memory  Just check the I95 construction through the city I heard someting was happening

Thanks for the tips!   We might re-think our trip to the Cape. :shoot me:

We were at a meeting in Martha's Vineyard several years ago and really liked it and was anxious to visit Cape Cod.  But maybe we should do that in the fall, when the summer people have gone back home!!! :big grin:

Swamp maples have already started..a few other trees here and there as well. Real change shouldn't start happening for another few weeks.

When are you all gonna give up this charade and move to the Mariner cruise with Tim and I????

Denise...we LOVE the Mercury..it may be because it was our first cruise but it is a nice older ship....if you can get a sky suite up on deck 12 (I think) it is the upper most pax deck..the balconies are MASSIVE ..we attended a glacier viewing party  in one and we had 12 people out there with 2 lounge chairs and like 4 regular chairs and a couple of tables and there was PLENTY of room left over...unbeliveablely nice..and a butler serving us drinks and appy's....
