What a cruise!!! I will do this review today as I remember things.

Leaving out of Red Hook. Well, getting there is much more difficult than the Manhattan pier IMO. The traffic was down right scary for this small town girl. But the terminal is modern and Princess really does know how to move people.  We found this to be true at ports also.

Going thru security I had two bottles of wine in a soft sided carrier. I was asked what it was, I said wine and the officer laughed saying I was the only truthful person that day. He made me open it to confirm it was wine. The policy is beer , wine and champagne are allowed as long as you don't try to bring the bar with you.

We had a mini on deck 9 midship and we loved it. The bathroom had a tub and was just fine except my husband had to bend down to wash his hair. There was plenty of closet space ,shelves and drawers. The 2 huge suitcases fit under the bed. The living room area had a 3 person couch. The balcony was uncovered and way to hot to  sit out there most times. I think even though the curtains were thick it made the cabin warm.  We had the air on max for the whole cruise and the only time it was really cool in the cabin was around 3 in the morning.

The people were outstanding. I had trouble with my safe and a security officer came to the cabin and much to my chagrin, had to show me how to use it. To close the safe, you had to hit enter, your 4 digit code, enter again and then close. I apoligized red faced and he told me that it was his job to serve me,all of this with a big smile. And with few exceptions this is the way we were treated throughout the entire cruise.

I have to do some unpacking because AJ wants the suitcases off his pool table. I do want however to talk about the food and specialty restaurants.

Later...

Susie

We cruised with Seahorse (Ann) and her wonderful husband Bud. Our Portuguese Spitfire (Fil) and her very handsome son Karl.

I thought the food was very good with awesome desserts. But what really surprised me was how good the food was at the buffet and Cafe Caribe. I usually avoid the buffet. One night they had grilled lamb chops and sirloin steaks at Caribe. YUM.

Bud was like our scout. He would fearlessly go and and peruse the menus and buffets hunting for just the right meal. He'd then report back with a detailed summary . The last afternoon he said they had a beautiful sushi spread at the buffet but we were too full to eat any.

It seemed as if you wanted to sit alone as a couple in the dining room, they placed the most inexperienced staff there. We had much better service sitting at a bigger table. We were asked if we wanted to share every time we entered a dining room but were always graciously seated at the table for 2 if this was our preference.

Not that the service was bad at a table for 2....it just seemed as if the wait staff weren't as smooth.

Specialty dining....we had dinner with Fil and Karl at both Sabatini's and the Crown Grill. Lovely atmosphere. But the food really wasn't any better than the dining room. In Sabatini's it's more about the experience. And I think it is important to give it a try.

Crooners and the bar next to Sabatini's served wonderful plates of all different olives to enjoy with your martini. We don't go to the big theatre venues and really enjoyed the different smaller musical groups in the bars. In the evening there was music everywhere.

Susie, when you finish your review, I'll move it to the review section. ;)

I haven't sailed on the Crown specifically, but so far some of your experiences  are very similar to what DH and I have found on the Grand and Dawn. I'm not a big fan of the completely open balconies but I absolutely loved Sabatini's!

Okay, thanks.....I should have known to put it there:picture::kiss:

The casino was pretty good to us. The staff was strange and only as friendly as they needed to be. I believe Princess out sources this.

Where we docked in San Juan there was a great duty free on the second floor. Fil and I sampled a few drinks  there:martini:. I bought cigarettes for $16 a carton. Fil and I also went to the casino for a half hour (I put $20 in a machine , she bought a shirt for her hubbie at Senor Frogs across the street) and we stopped at a place (Green Parrot?) for Mojitos because they had broken the Guiness Book of World Records. They said it was because they had served the most...I said it was for the $15 a drink that they charged.

I only got to play "Spot the Loonie" once this cruise. The last sea day I stood in a long line to get a read out of our charges.  Half way to the desk in front of me, was a man sitting in a straight back chair and he would hop ahead when the line moved.. He was I'd say mid fifties. He had a towel wrapped around his neck that I think was filled with ice judging by the wet mark down the back of his shirt. The ice was kept in place by binding the towel every couple of inches with duct tape.

I spied his read out and it was a half page long. I suspect it was the daily $10 tip. He held up the CSR for a good 20 minutes. He ended up yelling something about Homeland Security. I didn't stick around to watch.

Fil,

Did you ever watch Monty Python? It was a segment  of the show where you had to pick out the nutty person in a group or photo. It was always pretty easy. :big grin:Most of the people doing the spotting were as crazy at the loonies.

I never saw this show but I got to spot a few :jacket: but on cruises like anywhere else we always meet a few nuts. They make us laugh or scream, both good emotions to free a congested liver. :roflmao:
