Where do you store your passport & driver's license while at the beach swimming? We've made photo copies of them, do we leave the originals on the ship and take the copies?? Are they safe in a totebag on the beach? I know I saw info on this on the dark side, but I don't like going there anymore...
TIA

In the past, we've taken copies of our passports and original DLs/ship's cards and keep them in our beach bag. Usually we go with another couple or a group. That way there is always someone responsible for watching things. If it's just the two of us at the beach, one of us would be in the water while the other remained with our things. That usually isn't the case though.
Whether or not you want to take your passport or a copy seems to be a matter of personal preference and your comfort level. I feel safer in some ports taking a copy while in other ports I'd rather take the original. Also, someone suggested that you scan your passport and e-mail the copy to yourself. That way, it's always accessible from anywhere in the world that has an Internet connection.
Some ships sell small waterproof containers that you can wear around your neck just for these documents. I also like the Splash Caddy brand that gives you more options:

We bought Aquapacs from this site and LOVE them!

We can now carry our passports, IDs, money, credit cards, whatever with us when we swim and snorkel. No need to worry about leaving them on the beach!

Even in Bermuda, you have to be watchful of your personal belongings -- we usually swim one at a time while the other watches our stuff on the beach. You MUST bring your original photo ID (DL -- no need to bring your passport off the ship) with you when you leave the ship! The water wallets are a great idea -- you can buy in advance from the websites listed, or pick one up on board for less than $10. You'll only need one -- both your ship passes and DL's will fit, as well as any cash you're carrying.
Enjoy your cruise AND Bermuda -- our favorite ship and place!!

I always take a copy of my passport with me, but the original stays on the ship in the safe.
I don't leave my beach bag unattended on the beach chair, either. One person in the group always stays there to keep an eye on things.
