How early a flight should I schedule after the cruise? Can I make it to the airport before 11:00 am?

| It's entirely possible to make the airport by 11, but I would never take the chance. With lines that have self-disembarkation, it's very possible. However, there are too many things that can go wrong. A delay in returning to port, immigration problems or a number of other things that can't be anticipated. It once took us over an hour to get a cab because three ships were disembarking their passengers on the same day and time. What a mess! It's better to book a flight home after noon or 1 p.m. and not ruin the end of your cruise by being worried about making an early flight.

You might make an 11:00 flight, if everything goes right on schedule. (don't forget, with an 11:00 flight, you still should get to the airport at least 90 min before-hand). Not many times in my many years of crusing, have I gotten off the ship and gone thru Customs by 9:00.
Nowdays, with self-disembarkation, you might make it. But, I don't like to chance it and get all spazzed out on my last day. The airports are stressful enough when you have plenty of time!!

Does anyone know how busy the Tampa airport is? I have never been there and was wondering if it is crazy like Miami?

We were there last year in what appeared to be a newer section of the airport. We had no problems getting our luggage dropped off, through security and finding plenty to do while we waited for our flight. They had lots of shops and places to eat and plenty of seating. I've heard some people really hate this airport, but our experience was good.

I have never had a problem with the Tampa airport, always in and out fairly quickly. It's nothing like Miami.

That's what I was wondering about. I would like to catch a cruise out of Tampa for something different than Miami.

Yesterday, I disembarked Brilliance of the Seas. They started unoading passengers at around 7:15-7:30. I got off at 7:45 and was out of the building with my bags at 8:40.
I could have easily made an 11:00 flight.

this is one of my "chew my nails threads". I still really think I've blown our flight home from Heathrow. Can't stand the anxiety anymore, so have taken the stance of fk it... if I miss the flight, I'm staying another day or two!
I've never had a problem getting a flight out of Miami post cruise from noon on, but early is cutting it close if they are slow debarking.

Yeah, it's a crap shoot. But, most of the time, you could make a flight before noon.
But, in an overseas port, I would be more leery, as it takes more time to get from the ship to the airport.

I'm looking at a noon flight from Miami to Boston after our cruise. I think it will be fine, right? Everyone come reassure me now.

| Should be fine, Paul. I'd go a little later from Ft. Lauderdale, though.

| I think American looks to be my best bet right now. They have several non stops and they are running about $228 round trip pp. They have a nonstop on that Sunday at noon and I think that is the one I will be taking. The family though seems to want to take JetBlue, but they only go into FLL. We do have $40 credit, but I don't think that is worth it to me, at least not right now.

A noon flight from MIA will be OK. If I was going out of FLL, I wouldn't schedule one earlier than 1:00.

| I'm not comfortable with a flight on debarkation day prior to 1pm. I can tolerate sitting in an airport more than I can missing a poorly planned flight schedule. I typically leave a buffer day at home on the return so I can treat my debarkation day as part of the adventure. I've also had the fortune of being allowed to board earlier flights if I arrive ahead of schedule at the airport. But then I only do that if the airline waives any change fee.
