Or are there other idiots in other states who lining up for hours to get gasoline that costs upwards of $1 more than it did 8 hours ago b/c of Hurricane Ike?  Jesus people - you are freaking ridiculous!

I heard a report from Georgia too at $5.59.  I put premium in the MINI tonight, not because I wanted to pay more, but because the little red light was on saying if you go to the golf course tomorrow you might not get home it was $3.64, which is up about a quarter to what it was last Sunday.

It's really ridiculous - and these gas stations are just gouging people.  This morning on my way to work the 3 gas stations I went by were $3.77, $3.99 and $ 3.79.  On the way home, those same gas stations were $4.19, $4.99 and I don't know the last one b/c they didn't even have prices up but cars were lining up on the side of the road.

FYI - NC has one of the highest gas tax rates last I checked!

Yup, I saw a jump of nearly $0.20 between the time I went to work at 11 and the time I came home at 3:30. :(

Highest gas tax in like a 18 state radius... it is ridiculous...

It was 3.67 this morning, 4.19 when I left for dinner, 4.68 on the way home.  4.99 downtown apparently.  They said most places will be over 5 tomorrow.  Traffic was horrible because the lines were going out into the road!!  It was insane!!!!!!  I've got 3/4 of my premium gas left from the tropical storm (when there was no freaking regular available) and it will probably last me until at least the end of the month... I'm not playing this game.  If I run out of gas my ass doesn't need to be going anywhere anyway.

Do they think we are all brain damaged?  WTF!  We are not pumping gas in our cars from the rigs in the Gulf?  Shouldn't take a few weeks to affect what we have on hand?

Part of this is panic buying by the public.   You mentioned long lines.   When people hear prices are going up, many panic and rush to fill everything they can.   This can cause spot shortages in certain areas.   One way to slow it down is to raise the prices to stop people from buying and causing those shortages.

Make what you've got last as long as you can and only buy small amounts for a while.   If there is no major damage in the Gulf you will see the prices go back down within two weeks or so.

That's why I didn't fill up mine yesterday. Had over 1/2 tank and I'm not driving anywhere this weekend.

Brian was low, so he did fill up yesterday. Paid a little more but he didn't wait in the freaking long lines. He has to work all weekend though and usually has to do bank deposits, etc. so he definitely needed it.

Governor has implemented the price gouging law this morning and now the AG can investigate and prosecute.  He said this morning that wholesale gas prices were up less than 20 cents over the last few days so that is all that should have reflected at the pump... there was a place selling for $5.49 :shoot me:... ridiculous.

I read that technically since we were sill under a state of emergency from Hannah, that the gouging thing was in effect anyway, but it may have only applied to the part of the state affected by Hannah. One of the radio DJs yesterday said to remember the stations that are raising the prices....then not go to them when the prices come down.

Interesting.  The Governor doesn't know what he's doing LOL!  But this morning the gas is down to 3.99, so they definitely listened!!  I had thought about that when reading the paper, that I thought we were still under a SOE and why would he have to make a proclamation... but then realized who I was talking about :shoot me:... November can't come soon enough....

Gas prices are all over the map here today. I got 3.35, but saw 3.47 and 3.59. Those places looked like ghost towns, while those in the 3.30s were buzzing.

According to a report I read this morning, gasoline only went up 7 cents a gallon nationwide due to worries over Ike.   Therefore, large increases means either the local jobber who delivers to the stations or the individual stations took advantage of the situation.

In Branson, most stations went up 15 cents a gallon making me believe it was the jobbers.   There are two jobbers here and I know they are crooks.

Interesting, one lone station increased 40 cents a gallon for just a couple of hours before going down where the rest were selling.   To show how people are programed to rush to buy when the price goes up, that lone station had a line to buy while he was high while a station 1/2 block away selling for 25 cents less had little business.

It sure would. The station today in my subdivison stayed at $4.19 - same as last night but had to shut down 2 of 4 pumps b/c they were out.  Like I said yesterday, it was $3.79 on my way to work yesterday morning.

From the movie "Miss Congeniality":

Victor: Miss New Jersey, the state motto of New Jersey is, "The Garden State." Why is New Jersey called, "The Garden State"?

Gracie: Because "Oil and Petrochemical Refinery State" was too long to fit on the license plates?

Well, that explains all of the Crown stations that dropped from $4.79 to $3.99 in a couple of hours on Saturday.

It definitely looked like a mass panic on Friday afternoon.  I haven't seen gas lines like that since the 70's.  Last night before I dropped the rental car, there were still stations that were out of gas.  I paid $4.05 at a station that was limiting to $40 purchases.

HERE WE GO AGAIN.  Stations are out of gas.  It took me an hour longer to get to work today b/c I couldn't get around drivers waiting to get in to the gas stations that had gas.  Charlotte actually made the drudge report...absolutely rediculous!
