I'm looking for your opinions mainly, but if anyone can back it up with facts or experience , please share.
We have a 37 month old Buick Rendezvous (our 2nd in 6 years) with 34,000 miles. We took it to the dealer for all scheduled maintenance. We don't abuse it. It has a collapsed cylinder costing big bucks to fix. And no I didn't take the extended warranty.
I found out that GM after 2007 started to add a 50,000 /5 yr warranty on the drive train to help with customer satisfaction. I am wondering if they are aware of a problem.
I am afraid it will happen again.

Thats a tough one.
I would see what the repair bill is, Then see what they will give you for it As-Is for trading on a new one. BUT you know make sure its the true trade value not one of those we will give you a hugh price for it if you pay Sticker price for ours.
I've just never been a fan of keeping a car that the engine has "Been into". It just seems the problems just keep coming for me anyway.
Good Luck!
BTW, What is a "Collapsed" Cylinder? Never heard that term before.

It has something to do with a "Lifter".

Here is a web site that you can check to see if other problems have been reported, any recalls or any technical bulletins for any vehicle.
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/
As far as your decision you need to to decide what is going to be best for you budget. If you can better afford the repair bill vs the purchase of a new car. There is always a chance that you buy a new car and it has problems from day one.
When you trade your vehicle you will always lose money.

Thanks for your thoughts, emacdaddy2 and BigDfromTN.
BigD, the repair bill is $1400 and the dealership who has sold us 4 cars is going halves. Plus tax and something else.
emac you are so right. We bought a new Jeep years ago and it broke down on the way home with 8 miles on the odometer. It always had electrical problems.
The dealership didn't even try to sell us a new car.
