seawitches wrote: During my travels of research I've learned some things about Antigua, so when you folks return, we need to see a review of The Verandah.
Heard alot of conflicting reviews, but it is young and growing.
Need specifics on food, rooms and beach and power outtages
...... and if you get anymore inside info on eliteresorts lease problems with Hawksbill. Also Galley Bay and their reno and staff issues???
Post back with info, I still would like to do Antigua one day
p.s if you see any of those tarantula's DO NOT tell me!! The less I know about that the better:crazy:

:confused:IMO you are over-researching. Read Tripadvisor. Galley Bay and Hawksbill are at the top. I have stayed at Galley Bay and it was one of our favorite vacations for a number of reasons. The food was fantastic and the staff were great. Antigua has that British reserve. The people do get friendlier after you get to know them. A lot of Brits and Germans go to Antigua.

I have never, ever seen a tarantula:shock: in Antigua. Now in the DR, yes. Power outages are the norm in the Caribbean, usually brief, but I have never had one. Just lucky I guess. Have stayed in Antigua 3 times.

Hawksbill is a Rex Resort and to the best of my knowledge Elite does not own it. I have clients that just got back from The Verandah. They have been e-mailing me. It is not finished. They said the rooms are nice and the food is a notch above cruise food (NCL). I will get a full report soon.

We are staying at Sandals, not The Verandah. Too tame for Susie:roflmao:She likes action. We got a great rate and we had some Sandals points to use. Now I know that you are going to tell me that you have read many "bad" reports about Sandals;). I have stayed at all of them , except Antigua, so I know the good, bad and ugly about all of them:P

Good morning. It looks like it will rain very soon. It hit 56 here yesterday. AJ wanted to build a fire and sit outside last night.

Yes, we switched.  I was worried and told Ann...and then she didn't sleep:crazy:My bad.

I have been reading all sorts of reviews....there is a site that links from the Antigua Travel Bureau that is good.

http://www.geographia.com/cgi-bin/antiguanews/discus.pl

I registered but can't figure out how to start a new topic.

It seems so early to be switching the clock...I won't mind traded for some light at the end of the work day.

I have my garden planned ...I am going to only plant annuals in pots and baskets this year. The spot I use for annuals will have tomato plants.

I have to get to work:proud: I'm going to get fired!!!

Well, I didn't get fired.:angeldevil1:

I have to reconcile the checkbooks. I use colored markers to help the accountant. Tony says it looks like I'm doing arts and crafts.

Have you noticed the print keeps getting smaller?

I have stayed at SRB 3x and the food there is the best. Stay in the new section.

Visited St. James, would rather stay at Galley Bay.

We once went to a tiny AI in Mexico...can't remember the name. They did the same thing there....and anything only came with a tip. I don't mind tipping for great sevice but no one would even look at you without the wearing of the green. A hurricane hit and I was afraid they were going to leave us there and run. And I had tons of spider bites when I left.

AJ got asked to be a pallbearer. I was hoping they would ask someone younger.

I sort of looked in my freezer...:big grin:

It's a funny thing ...over the weekend the freezer "looked" like it needed some weeding....yet tonight, it "looked" pretty damn organized.

I took tomorrow's dinner out and closed the door.

In reference to the post re tarantula's in Antigua, I found an interesting article about fire ants, and the problems with them there... which led to the next article about the spread of these through out the Caribbean including Bahamas. I had a huge problem there a few years back and always alluded to being bitten first then sunburnt.. I may have been right. These critters bites can cause huge allergic reactions... all this just being fyi. sorry for hijacking

Well, if we were afraid of bugs, we wouldn't go outside...you're not hijacking. Everyone is welcome here.

The worst bite I ever had was from a brown recluse spider. I was gardening and it was staying warm and safe between the bricks of my home. The next day I had blood poisoning. It injects a kind of acid.

Good morning. I have a little bit of water seeping into my basement running into a floor drain.  Poor AJ is going to get soaked at the funeral.

Piggy is missing since the night I said the cats were holding their own. I should have kept my mouth shut.

I hope you got some sleep, Ann.

Oh Poor Piggy:( He will come around.

Was up most of the night with the T-storms and rain. Every time we get a t-storm I think and get sad about Chickie:( The fear is what did her in and she had that attack:moping:
