The silver colour does squat. My laundry room doesn't get seen by anyone but me so basic white works for me just fine. As to whether or not it's a gimmic...... I'm not willing to pay a few hundred $$$ more for a machine that does the same thing. Remember avacado green or harvest gold. Blech!

Beth, it isn't a silver colored washing machine, but a silver plated machine that because the silver is in the process of laudering suppossedly kills germs...
style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #c6e1d7"This combined with the comments of some of those owning it that they have mildew issues, convinces me that it is a gimmick, but I am actually ignorant on the topic and I am hopeful that someone will educate me!

Are you asking about a stainless steel tub?
Beth
Some of the Stainless tubs have a "Silver Ion" coating.
that is what they are talking about. Those Ions are supposed to kill bacteria.

Well, live and learn. Mine doesn't have it, at least I don't know about it. And I've never had a mildew problem. So if I go back to jc's question is it a gimmick or not.... I'd have to say probably.

We just got the new Whirlpool Duet set a couple weeks ago. Love them. However,
they were supposed to deliver a matching set, and one appliance is actually off-white
so theyhave to come out and switch out the washer.
I'm amazed at how these front loaders work. Love them! Thanks for the
reminder though about leaving the door open to prevent mildew smell.
Whirlpool and Maytag come out of the same factory, as does Kenmore.
