I need help. After 22 years all my appliances are going (at the same time)! I am amazed at all the new stuff out there.
Do you have a front-load washing machine and dryer? Do you love it, like it, hate it or what. What kind did you buy?
I thought I wanted a Whirlpool Cabrio (top loader without the agitator, similar to frontloader) until I heard it twists all your clothes around. Now I am looking at a Borsch 500 frontloader series. Do you have one? Do you like it? Do you have to keep the door ajar to avoid smell (I hear you have to do this with the Maytag ones).
I can not believe I am asking this here, but it does say "off topic!" After looking all day in 6 different stores (and I have 5 more to go), I am considering cleaning my clothes the old fashioned way...with a few rocks and lake water!
Thanks,
Coka

My w/d are 19 years old and still running great (knock on wood).
But I have heard great things about front-loading machines, and when my washer gives up the ghost and has to be replaced, I am planning on getting one.
I saw one at Lowe's the other day (washer and dryer) that were red! They were so darn cute! My laundry room is next to my kitchen, which is done in black and white, so the red w/d would look FAB!!!!!!!

| We usually shop for appliances at Nebraska Furniture Mart where they have a HUGE selection or at Sears. That being said, my washer is a top loader, my dryer a front loader. I like them that way.

I've been interested in this as well. Knock wood my washer and dryer are still in great condition so I am hoping that the front loader washers will have come down in price by the time I need one!
Have you guys seen the dryer closets? I know that's not the official name for it but you actually put the clothes on hangers or lay them flat and they dryer will dry them that way! That is way cool!
Coka, try epinions.com. I know they have reviews for just about anything.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh........... touching wood, crossing fingers, saying prayers..... once one goes...... they all do. I just replaced an 18 yr old dishwasher last week. Got a great deal on that one from Sears.
I am terrified to think about washers and dryers. I don't have a main floor laundry, and really should with getting older, so I may bite the bullet and turn a powder room into a laundry room and buy the stackables.
When my DS lived in Europe he had front loaders and loved them.

Hmmm, never heard of epinions...will try it out!
Oh yeah, they come in red, black, blue, silver, white, almond, you name it, they probably have it. Color costs more though!
Oh yeah, they come now with internal heaters up to 190 degrees, no need for clorox to wash the whites, it gets it clean better than, use only a few gallons water for full loads, push buttons...lots of them...you can be at work all day and program your washer to start one hour before you get home! The front loaders get the water out so well that you use less dryer time (hence saving even more money). I told the sales rep I would immediately purchase full price today if it also folded and put the damn clothes away, too!
The Bosch is made in Germany. The sales rep even said, "You know the Germans...they take pride in their clothing." Immediately thinking of my German mother-in-law, I agreed...and then added, "yeah but I have seen European homes and they do not have the room for the size of those beasts you are showing me!" I think they made them bigger because that is what America wants...bigger everything!
Well, at least I am now having FUN searching now that you all are around!
I look to forward to not hearing "kabump kabump arghhhhhhhh, kabump kapump arghhhhhhhh" noises from my dryer. In the meantime, I will try to survive the leaking fridge, the leaking dishwasher with the door that can slice your leg off if it falls open too fast, the stove that takes twice as long to heat up and the microwave that is probably the reason why I "glow."
I missed the old fashioned days...until I saw a brand new 1950's style kitchen appliances with the look of my deceased nana's stove, etc...as the most expensive item in the showroom! I thought, WTF?
Wish me luck! I head out tomorrow once again!

| We have a front loader washer and dryer. I absolutely love them. You can wash so much more at a time. My water bill was also cut in half. I would recomend buying a set.

I LOVE MY FRONT-LOADER WASHER & DRYER! Kenmore, nothing crazy fancy.
Less detergent, less water, less drying time needed (spin cycle practically dries the clothes for you.!) You have to buy that special HE (high efficiancy) detegent that makes less bubbles, which is sometimes hard to find.
And don't worry, they don't take near as long as those all-day washers in Europe...spin, spin, stop, wait 5 mins, spin the other way, stop, wait 5 mins, click, click, spin the other way...
The dryer has a sensor so I'm not wasting money over-drying. A full load of DH's construction-worker clothes now only takes 30 mins. to dry compared to 1 1/2 hours with the old one.
But that rattle, clang, ching thing is starting to happen again in the dryer. We have to open it up inside (?) and see what (pebbles & screws) fell out of pockets that's rolling around in there...

gurlwithbaggage - awesome recommendation on the epinion website! I just read over 22 reviews on the particular Bosch I am looking at. The opinions and recommendations expressed there were very useful. Will definitely use that website for other products!
Have a great day everyone!

No because the rest of us don't use our washers and dryers for amusement rides.

What do you think was at his villa at the Couples Resort??? A couple of sock, couple pairs of shorts, couple of t shirts, and a fantastic washing machine with a bucket of quarters!!
Had to chuckle about losing the leg on the dishwasher.. the new one is quiet as a mouse. Only problem is that it's an energy efficient and runs for 110 min on a normal wash..saves on water, but uses +++ minutes of energy The old sucker used to vibrate the whole house when the pump went on, and all the glass tines had rusted and broken off.

Ya Amy.. crazy eh?
why we even replaced this one, I don't know... just the two of us here now.
Oh ya Christmas dinner that happens...... every 2 frkn years !! duh
Needless to say, we use the "smart wash" cycle alot. I got another 8% discount on it too for buying an energy efficient machine. The first time we ran it, we both went "gee that machine is taking a long time" The next time was "shit, I think we might have a problem here". After a week, we got the manual out and read it (typical eh?)
