I've seen the fairy penguins in Australia and they were so cute.

I've seen the ones at Edinburgh Zoo a few times :big grin:

It's incredible when you see a colony with hundreds of them.  Philip Island near Melbourne has a 'march' when they come back from the sea at twilight and they all know exactly where to head to find their own nest.

It was amazing to stand there and watch them.   They are such funny little things.

I haven't tried yet - I figured that 14 months out was probably a little too soon!

Well, this cruise suddenly seems a lot more real.  Air France changed the terms of their contract and, to keep the same fare, we had to pay IN FULL for our flights today instead of in December.  At least we got a $200 drop on the cruise earlier in the week!

I'm fine thanks - glad you had a good time.

I just had a minor (well actually a major panic) and thought I would have to cancel the Jewel in December.   :sadgoodbye:

I think it's all OK now though....

I know....and when I told David, he said that HE didn't have to cancel - he would still go!

I think he was joking (well he better have been :spank:) but then I got my issue sorted (over-cautious HR dept!)

PHEWWWWWWwwwwwwhttp://www. Gotta get this rollcall jumping ... I don't know why I say that ... I will be way too busy to party and wont be able to leave the ship ... I'll be in the kiddie pool area with 3 under the age of 3 or going down the slide. Nothing is more fun than watching Nonna go down the slide

Hey, all!  The New Year :drink:is upon us and hope it brings fun cruising to everyone.  I realize we are still pretty far out for this roll call, but I hope there will be others to join in and keep this thread hopping.  It will be my first to SA and getting excited.  :banana:Havn't made my flight reservations yet.  Not sure whether to stay extra days in Santiago or Buenos Aires.

I met someone on the GEM TA who told me the bus ride from Santiago to Valpraiso isn't all that bad, just take the tourbus much like those we take on excursions, I suppose.  So that relived me some.;)

Well,  sure would like to know who all will be joining us....keep in touch.

My husband David and I are still on this one in November although I have complicated things hugely by leaving my job and starting a new one in January!

Really looking forward to it. It's out 1st time to S.America as well.

We met Tinkerbell on the Jewel a couple of weeks ago - it's a shame she's had to cancel.

Yes, it is too bad about Tinkerbell.  My wife and her were PM'ing.  Hope we get to meet others on the board before cruise time.

Guys, if you need any contact information for port excursions, feel free to pm me and I will send you the companies we used in Nov/Dec 2005 on the HAL Rotterdam.  South America is a wonderful cruise experience.  As far as rough conditions, we had a few hours one morning out of 16 days.  Now those few hours were really rough, but still it was amazingly calm.  We did pre and post stays in Brazil in Rio and Iquassu Falls, and in Santiago and then Peru where we visited Machu Picchu.  Have a great trip.
