| Great flight prices but I am wondering if the extra transportation charge is worth it. There will be 6 of us, flying in the night before we cruise. HELP

| I think I'd go with renting a van at West Palm, dropping it at Ft. Lauderdale airport and taking the shuttle from there.

That would be my plan but you have to make sure it is a "BIG" van. 6 people and their baggage are not getting in a mini van.
The alternative bite the bullet and fly into FLL.
Not sure why an "actual CRUISE question" is in the Topless Deck - For the non cruising topics

I am never sure where to post anything here so I just randomly pick a thread...
I am thinking that for the hassle and extra transportation cost it might not be worth it to fly into PBI. It's a savings of $30 per person and I bet we would be trading for $200 in headaches.....

LOL, i thought the same thing, shoreguy.
i gather from the posts that you are flying into wpb, and sailing out of ft. lauderdale?
is your pre-night stay in lauderdale?
i wld look into getting van/taxi/limo transportation to the hotel in lauderdale, and buying the ship's transfers for the return to pbi (if they offer it).
if you price out renting a car, be sure to ask about drop off fees. some fla rental companies are now starting to charge them. it was a nice perk when they didn't.
ETA: oh, or just call denise!

I would not even consider it for $30 pp. Now $100 + I can put up with a couple of headaches no problem. One thing about WPB the airport is far more civilized then FLL and MIA on the weekends.

No question about it, go to FLL. We have 5 sailing out of Port Everglades and never considered flying into WPB, too much of a hassle to rent/drive down and getting a transport with 5 people would be a hassle as well.

Just for fun I checked the rates for a full size van or SUV, Budget, 1/17 at PBI noon, 1/18 drop off FLL 10 am, van $189/, plus gas, taxes for a total of $228 (that is a special with the $20 off weekend code). No insurance added.

Thank you for doing the homework. You get a gold star Sir. This more than answers my question.
Also...I would like to point out that this thread is under "pre and post cruise info"....so THERE

Yikes. For that kind of money it's not worth it. I just checked Alamo - full size SUV is $85.00 + tax for a total of $103.28... better but still probably not worth it.

the flights went down so we booked. We are flying into West Palm the day before the cruise and flying out the day after the cruise.
So....here is our situation:
A) pre cruise:Landing in PBI at 8:35 pm the night before the cruise. I would like to avoid renting a car that day if possible. We need to find the most sensible way to get from PBI to a FLL area hotel for the evening.
-transportation suggestions welcomed
-hotel suggestions welcomed (Port area please, if possible. and under $200 per night)
B) post cruise: We need to rent a vehicle big enough to accommodate the 6 of us and then find something fun to do for the day (it will be niece's 12th birthday!) and finally land at a hotel very close to PBI. We are flying out of PBI at 6:00 am the next morning. We need:
- good rental places that will allow drop off at PBI
-fun activity for kids
- decent hotel near PBI
Florida experts and cruising geniuses....I await your suggestions.

You might have to do a bit of research on these, but here are the ones that came up when I Googled "Port Everglades + hotels".
A. Lago Mar Resort Hotel - http://www.lagomar.com - (954) 523-6511 - 269 reviews
B. Sheraton Yankee Clipper Beach Hotel - http://www.starwoodhotels.com - (954) 524-5551 - 394 reviews (Right across the street from the beach)
C. Grande Hotel & Yacht Club - http://www.fortlauderdalegrande.com - (954) 764-4775 - 143 reviews
D. Embassy Suites Hotel Ft. Lauderdale - http://www.ftlauderdale.embassysuites.com - (954) 527-2700 - 127 reviews (Love staying here and it has a shuttle to the pier. They pick up from the Ft. Lauderdale airport. Not sure if they'd pick up from PBI though.)
E. Hyatt Hotels & Resorts: Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty Six - maps.google.com - (954) 525-6666 - 421 reviews
F. Marriott Hotels and Resorts - http://www.fortlauderdalegrande.com - (954) 463-4000 - 54 reviews
G. Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa - marriottharborbeach.com - (954) 525-4000 - 261 reviews
H. Bahia Mar Beach Resort - http://www.bahiamarhotel.com - (954) 764-2233 - 368 reviews (I've stayed here and would NOT recommend it)
I. Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Ft. Lauderdale Air/Sea Port - travel.yahoo.com - (954) 828-9905 - 81 reviews
J. Hyatt Place Fort Lauderdale Airport- North - ftlauderdaleairport.place.hyatt.com - (954) 763-7670 - 99 reviews

Since price rather then convenience seems to be the driver. You can get from WPB to FLL for $4 pp on the train
http://www.tri-rail.com/index.asp
You will have to find a hotel at PBI since the last train is about 8:30 pm. Get up early and you can be at FLL by 9am
The Palm Beach International Airport is accessible by Tri-Rail from the West Palm Beach Tri-Rail station located at 203 South Tamarind Avenue. A Palm Tran shuttle carries passengers to/from the Tri-Rail station to PBIA. For more information, click here.
*Palm Beach International Airport access via Palm Tran Routes 40 or 44.

| We are unable to make reservation for Palm Beach airport on the internet, but SuperShuttle does provide service to PBI Airport. For reservations and other information, please call 561-233-0500

One last thing to think about. I assume you are on Delta based on the times. Since you are taking the last flight of the day the next flight does not depart Buffalo until 10 am getting to PBI at 3:59pm if you can get on it. No way you claim your bags and get to the pier before the ship is closed to boarding. Make sure you have travel insurance since weather is never an issue in Buffalo during January.
For $20 more you could be on the 12:40 flight or better yet for $202 pp you could be on the first flight of the day at 10 am giving you 2 flights that day to still make your cruise
Heck for $190 you can fly Delta to FLL and be minutes from the ship.

THANK YOU!! You are awesome!
I am with you on the times and Buffalo. Delta has 2 early flights going out on the day of the cruise. Both would get us there in time to board. I am ~thinking~ they might let us take a flight to FLL day of also if it came to that.
We are doing something creative so that we can fly out with SIL and her family. They are coming in from Syracuse to fly with us and they are flying back to Rochester. (we are meeting them in Rochester and giving them a ride to BUF.) Trying to coordinate with them has been tricky....and still trying to keep the price where we need it to be. We got these flights for $156 PP!!!
I like the option of spending the night near PBI and taking that $4 train in the morning. DH was impressed with your homework! I can almost bet that is what we will do.

The 10 am gets to PBI at 3:29 with the best connection - you miss the ship
The 12:40 gets you to PBI at 5:40 with the best connection - you miss the ship
Delta 6:30 am FLL with best connection if there are seats for six gets there before noon. You make the ship

on the Delta site they are showing:
1/18 : 6:30 that Arrives at PBI at 11:20 or 11:40 or 1:40
Where you are looking that only shows the 10:00 am flight? You got me scared now....I already booked. I wonder what it costs to change. DANG
