Hi,

I've noted in some threads people have taken the train between Nyc and Bos or the other way around.

How does that work out with all the bags one takes on a cruise?

How do you transfer from the train station with those bags and how expensive is it?

How long a trip is it compared to driving ones car and parking while on the cruise?

I've been thinking of a t/a ending in Nyc and wondering if I should take the train back to Bos or fly from Nyc to Bos.

Just one of those wandering ideas in the back of my head when I'm daydreaming or mowing the lawn! You get the idea!

Thanks

I took Amtrak from Boston back to NYC after a T/A, and it was pretty easy!

In Boston there was a porter who took my bags, safe-guarded them, and put them on the train for me. He had me meet him as a designated time, follow him to the train, watch me load the bags on the car, then I sat in the next row from the storage area. Unfortunately, I had to lug them all myself in NY-Penn, but I had packed only one wheeled case and a carry-on so it wasn't too bad. (Current airline luggage restrictions might help you keep the luggage down to what you can personally manage.) I don't know if Amtrak has a checked baggage program at Penn Station? They didn't seem to in Boston.

Sorry, I can't speak to what it's like going from NYC to Boston.

I think the trip was ~3-1/2 hours and cost about $50-60. If you're cruising into the Manhattan cruise pier it's a short taxi ride to Penn Station. The one time I did that I think I paid ~$10-12 including the extra tip for baggage handling. Money-wise you'd definitely come out ahead doing the train versus taking a taxi to the airport and flying.

I'm not sure about the train, but Entertainment Tours has a bus between the pier and South Station for $85.  That might be an option for you, and it would save dragging the bags around.  The website is http://www.enttours.com.
