I did check out the bus link and it is fabulous.

For $45.00 you can be on a double decker bus for 48 hours and use the Hop On Hop Off plan. It sounds perfect for our visiting. :proud:

It use to be so easy to buy them ,then everything was hidden. It was like a drug dealer coming up to you only whispering pocketbooks. We are going on Sunday.Taking the kids to see a show and then go downtown .We thought it would be a nice way to end their summer break.

We have handbag parties .I have gotten the greatest knockoffs.I am hoping someone has one soon.I have gone to many but we have this one girl that gets everything What a selection.I don't buy Coach .DH buys me the real ones .
:big grin:

One more tip on the handbags

Try Sell.com

They have a big selection of knockoffs .Many coming right from China.

I bought a Chanel all leather perfect knockoff that I swear it is real.

I think they may say they are real but when you see a Fendi that you know is 1,000 for 150 you know they are fake.

Ebay will not allow it.

1) As posted the ferry from Battery Park to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.

2) For Karl the Metropolitan Museum of Art - great photo ops

3) Top of the Rock or Empire State

4) The hole that was once the WTC - brings reality to a terrible day - I climb out of it every day.

5) Find a  great restaurant. shows, or just enjoy the streets around Times Square.

Sounds super Jim. Is Karl allowed to take photos at the Museum ?

In Time Square please suggest a restaurant for dinner on Tuesday night.

Merci

DS Jimmy went to High School 2 blocks from the Met. Museum. Used to wait in front of it for the Bus home. He had to do a few Art projects at the Museum for his classes. No photos of the original l paintings  were allowed in the Museum at that time.

Other places:

http://www.nycvisit.com/  convention and visitors bureau If trip is later, they have a nice free booklet you can order (or pick up at their site near Times Square)

http://www.playbill.com  for shows (Christmas Show at Radio City starts 11/2 I think).

Hop on Hop off bus is an excellent way to see the city:big grin: As a native New Yorker DH and I did this with another couple just to see what a tourist gets to see. It was truly a fun experience and the tour guide gave an excellent over view of  the city. The weather should be good Fil so you can sit out on the top of the bus. Wear a visor and sunscreen. Or if too hot go downstais and sit in the A./C

Great suggestions Jim:big grin:

I totally agree that the WTC site is something to see:( It is now part of our history and while I admit it is very difficult for me to view.as DH worked for many year on the 100th floor of Tower 2. It does bring reality to a truly terrible day.

I'm thinking you could start at Battery Park downtown. VERY early the long lines for the ferry to the Statue of Liberty form. Take the ferry over and on your return . There is a free  mini bus run by the Downtown Alliance that makes a continuous loop from Battery Park to the WTC site and South Street Seaport.Runs about every 15 minutes

Across the street from the WTC site there is a discount department store called CENTURY 21 in case you want to shop a little.

Then you could head to the South Street Seaport for some seafood. (The wedding I went to last Sat was at the Seaport)

I was just in NYC in July and recommend taking the Family Tour of the WTC. The husband and wife team that gave our tour spoke about their firefighter son who perished on 9/11. Really brought the human loss close and made it personal.

Also, make sure you check out the bias on the side of the firehouse directly across from Ground Zero and the monument that American Express made for the 11 employees they lost. Very moving :sadfriend:

If you go down to WTC...go over to the Winter Garden right across the street (big glass fronted building).  Inside they have a photographic exhibit of that day and the recovery afterwards.

On 31st St, between 7th and 6th Avenue, there is a church, St. Francis of Assisi.  Father Judge (he was the FD chaplain who perished that day - I am sure all of you have seen the photograph of him being carried away) was from that church.  He went down to WTC that day with his brothers from the firehouse right across the street.  Inside there is a piece of the WTC steel and a beautiful stained glass window (I believe a nun made it?) all in memory of that day.

St Francis has the oldest bread line in the city...every morning they brothers are out there giving whatever they can to those in need.  They also do wonderful things for the neighborhood.  So...if you visit, whether or not you be Catholic, please don't forget to drop a buck or two into the poor box.  I assure you it will be put to good use.

Have a good time in this beautiful city...I'm here every day and will never ever tire of it.  This evening, on the way home on the train, I was sitting backwards...that means I could see the skyline as we headed towards Long Island.   I still get a kick out of seeing that skyline...to me, there is no prettier, nor welcoming sight.

Ciao,

WaWW

Thank for sharing your love of the city and your care for those in need. We are indeed Catholics and if we go by St Francis I will be more than happy to make a contribution.

A bit late but here none the less.

My greatest suggestion is : use the Hop On Hop Off bus. Great tours and easier on your feet. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Reserve ahead of time it is less expensive by $5

Way too much to see in 2 days.

P.S. dinner at the top of the Marriott in Time Square is indeed a very special experience. Thank you so much Chris and Jimmy for making this birthday so special.

for anyone reading this in the future:

best things to do in NYC if you have 2 days:

visit me (just kidding)

day 1 -- get the new york pass.  it gets you into basically everything.....at an unbelievably discounted price, and is even less money if you are a AAA member and...it lets you cut lines at some of the busiest attractions like the statue of liberty and the empire state building.  you can buy it at madamme tussauds, port authority, etc.

pay attention to closing times.  for example -- do statue of liberty b/4 you do madame tussad's b/c statue i think closes at 5, while the museum is open until at least 10, usually.  this is the BEST bang for your buck in NY.

here's the link:

http://www.newyorkpass.com/index2.asp?AID=9760761&PID=1996902

day 2 -- do a show (broadway, off broadway or radio city).  if it's christmas, do radio city christmas spectacular, and get cocoa/coffee at the restaurant which overlooks the ice rink; and/or

lunch at tavern on the green or tea at the plaza, if that is more your style. then don't forget to hit tiffany's :big grin:.

 http://www.tiffany.com/Locations/Store.aspx?StoreId=682&CountryId=-1&RegionId=1&

another good thing to do, if you don't like these options:

write into letterman.  try to get tickets.  his show tapes at 4 p.m. (or somewhere abouts there, i used to work around the corner from the theatre, so i used to go see all his outside tricks).  tickets are free, but hard to get.  write in a/s/a/p.  if you have a cruise and are booked far out your chances may be good.

have dinner and drinks at rosie o'gradys on 7th (right around the corner, and right next door to my old office building, lol).

the crowne plaza is nice for accomodations.  here's the link:

http://www.manhattan.crowneplaza.com/index.php

tip:  so as to not be shocked: NYC hotel rooms are small.  very small (manhattan i'm talking, not boroughs).  not as small as paris, but not very far behind.  it is difficult to find rooms w/ 2 beds if that is what you will need and, the beds are small. crowne plaza has them.  they are one of few.

That is not totally true, we made the Statue of Liberty, WTC site, Empire State, Times Square, she closed a real estate deal at Kinko's just off time square, so she was part of the problem.

...and the hotel in Jersey was the only one with mirrors on the ceiling and a vibrating bed that took quarters - again EXACTLY what she wanted.

I haven't seen one of those in years! Didn't know they still existed. Kinky! :big grin:
