Anybody got any pre-crusie hotel info about good hotels to stay in the night before the cruise?

I stayed at a hotel the night before my cruise back in March. I will have to get out my info and write down the name here. It was NOT convenient to the port, as it advertised itself on the 'Net.  It was a $40 taxi cab ride from the hotel to the pier!!!!!!

I have heard really good things about the Holiday Inn near Bayside Market.  I believe it has free shuttle service to the pier.  And there's another one, I have heard good reviews about - but for the life of me - can't remember the name right now.  If I figure it out, I will post it here!

Best Western
3875 NW 107th Ave
Miami, Fla

Pro's:  Recently built hotel. Attractive and in good shape & condition. Free breakfast buffet. I had a nice, quiet room.  Check-in and check-out ws fast and easy. Clerks were nice. They had a small pool with nice landscaping. A few fast-food places within walking distance.  Free van shuttle from Miami airport to hotel.

Con's:  About a 15-20min drive from the airport at night without much traffic. During the day or during rush hour must take forever!!! :(   Not much around hotel, but fine if you're only staying there one night pre or post cruise.  However, the cab fare to the cruise ship dock the next morning was expensive and took about 20-25 min.
On my next pre-cruise hotel stay, I would choose a hotel on the EAST side of the airport, not the west side like this hotel is.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Bayside. Two years ago, they did not have free shuttle service, but there were plenty of taxis available and some people from our roll call arranged for vans to take them to the ship.

We got Hyatt Downtown on Priceline for Oct 2005 cruise for $55. Nice hotel & close to people mover & Bayside ( Nice long walk). Didn't get to see much of the city since we arrived right after a hurricane & lots of damage & parts of the city were still without power.

we stayed at the Inter-Continental, right next to Bayside. Nice hotel and was only $11 I think to the ship, depends on the lights. We hit every dang one!

Holiday Inn Bayside is very convenient to the pier but does NOT have a shuttle service. Being right across the street from Bayside you have a lot dining options for both dinner and breakfast on sailaway day. Also there is usually some form of night time entertainment.

Our preferred hotel is the Intercontinental if we can get a decent price.

We wanted to stay at the Holiday Inn since we'd heard good things and we enjoy Bayside, but we couldn't get a room.  We stayed at a place called Fortune House, which is not that far away in the financial district.  It was a condo hotel with tight security.  A couple of restaurants within walking distance.  We were two couples with a 2 year old.  Our condo had two bedrooms, sleeping 6, two bathrooms, full kitchen, living room, dining area, etc.  I believe the cost was about $200.  So split between two couples it was reasonably priced and very roomy and nice.  We wanted somewhere the little one could run around in so we were very happy.  It was nice to be able to see the ship come in from our balcony!

What is a decent price in your opinion?  May need for 2 nights.

2 years ago we got the Inter-Continental for $75 from Hotels.com but were put up in the Marriott Courtyard because of Hurricane cleanup crews still staying at the hotel.

This year we got the Inter-Continental for $90 from Hotwire.com. I would pay $100 for this hotel. It is a very nice hotel and very convenient to what we want for a pre-cruise hotel in Miami.

Have you seen or used the pool?  I will have my son who will be 10 with us and loves to swim.  Is it nice or normal?

Is there a special listing item or icon that tells you it is the Intercontinental on Hotels.com?

Have not seen the pool. I believe it is an indoor pool.

As for recognizing the Inter-Continental, my wife found this web page that is a collection of info that decodes a lot of the thing. Plus if you get a 4 star rating for a hotel in that area it is probably one of two. The Inter-Continental or the Hyatt.

Thanks PE.  Intercontinental and Holiday Inn are on my short list I think right now.  Still a year away so all subject to change.

Those are the two best for convenience to Bayside and the pier.

At PE's advice, I booked the Intercontinental for my last cruise.  When you search for hotels, choose a four-star with Laundry facilities - I think you will get assigned to the Intercontinental as that is the only four-star with laundry....maybe PE can verify what I just typed.

I wish I wasn't sick as a dog when I stayed there b/c then I could have enjoyed the bed and pillows...they were just about the best I have ever slept in!

I thought it was supposed to be cheaper to fly into FLL.  I am finding much better flights, prices and non stop to boot direct to Miami from BOS Logan Int'l.  Forget MHT for this trip.  Prices are real high and not one non-stop offered.

Anyone else find airfare competetive to Miami instead of FLL?

I have found $238 pp. BOS - MIA Of course it isn't for January, since they aren't open that far out, but it is November, which should hopefully be similar in pricing.  I'm thinking that is not terrible.  I do have to fly out of Logan, but I guess I can make that sacrifice.

Southwest had some good fares this year for January.  Of course, they won't come out with their January schedule until fall, probably.

You're right, though, no non-stops to either place from MHT.  We're waiting for Jet Blue from Boston to come out for our October cruise.  I've gotten so I'll pay a little extra for the non-stops, rather than dealing with changing planes, even if it means dealing with Logan.

If we have a morning flight, we'll usually stay at the Hampton Inn in Revere.  Their park & fly package is $159 including tax (through a company that we deal with...direct with Hampton it's usually about $179 plus tax).

I've reflected on this many times lately, and need some frank advice..... did I get ripp'd in South Beach?

We stayed at The Palms   http://www.thepalmshotel.com/index.cfm . I had heard so much about South Beach and found it quiet. I didn't like the beach, found it dirty. I did like the restaurants. Shopping was good. Pool and breakfast room was stunning.

Did I stay too far out of South Beach? Why didn't I hear all the hot Latino music??, see the hot young rich kids? see the throngs of people??
