I am desperately trying to pare back on what we are bringing, I have no intention of lugging tons of luggage through Europe. From what I gather except for the supper club my husband can wear long dress shorts (you know those plaid ones that come to like your knees) but my son can't wear his sports type shorts (he won't wear dress shorts) can my son get away with track pants in the restaurants or does he have to wear kacki's?  I have plenty of sundresses etc so I am not worried about myself for dinner just don't want to bring the ten pairs of shoes I normally do etc. This trip is about the destination not the journey for once and I want it as low key as possible.

I see that flip flops are not ok- (does that include leather ones? He wore them on princess and ncl and no one seemed to care- I never thought carnival would be stricter) what about sneakers (thinking of my son again) This is the part I hate trying to figure out what I can slip by with. We did the whole tuxedo/gown stuff in April and I have no intention of dressing to the nines after a ten hour tour. I am even leaving all the jewelry at home to not tempt any theives. So how much can I slide without others giving me the evil eye?

I'm sorry I can't really help, as I've never been on Carnival. But I have been on most of the other mass-market lines.
On casual nights, he could probably get away with the knee-length shorts, but I can't say for sure. I don't know what the Carnival dress-code is for the dining room in the evening.

On formal nights, of course, the shorts wouldn't be the best idea. If they won't "dress-up" for formal nights, how about a pair of navy Docker-type pants with a button down shirt?

Sometimes on the formal nights that I don't feel like getting formal, we just pop up to the Lido cafe and eat in the buffet.  I have had better meals in the Lido cafe in the evenings sometimes than the main dining room!!!

I hope someone that has actually sailed on CCL can help you out!!!!!

Good luck!

I checked the Carnival Web site and there is only one addition to the usual dress guidelines:

For South America and Europe cruises: Comfortable shoes and a just-in-case raincoat. Bring a sweater if you are traveling to the glaciers, along with a raincoat and umbrella, because it is often cold and windy in such areas. Special note: It is essential that you wear the proper apparel when visiting the Vatican and other religious sites (no bare legs or shoulders).
