I was really looking forward to going back over to the Virgin Gorda Baths.  Although, being able to walk off the ship to the pool or the beach sounds great too!  Is there a charge to go to the pool or to the beach?  It does not look like it but I am not sure.

no charge for either.

the cabanas are not on the beach.  they are at margaritaville, by the pool.  they weren't finished either time we were there, but apparently are now.

in this link you can see the pics of them.  according to the site, they are booked thrugh margaritaville.  you'll  have to check the ccl site to see if they have partnered with them to do the bookings.

for our port change we are in with triumph, so that's gonna suck.  all the chairs will probably be gone.  i think you guys are in port alone (double check...this link has a calendar)

there are clamshells on the beach which will provide for some relief.

i guess i shld post this link in the POC forum too, huh?

yes.  ccl has them available now (above link).

for us, they'll be gone from triumph anyway.  you may have better luck if you act quickly.

Thanks for the info and links.

The Cabana rentals are not listed as a shore excursion for our sailing.  There are other things listed.  I think that I will call and check.

i know you are looking for shade, so if you get locked out of a cabana for some reason, there are plenty of umbrellas around the various lounge chairs at margaritaville, and there are clamshells on the beach.

i like the pool area at margaritaville better than the beach area there though.

Agreed on the pool area.

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #c6e1d7"There are also quite a few shade trees on the beach.

Thanks for the info on the shade.  This some choices on what to do if the cabana is a no-go.

Update for anyone that is interested in the cabanas:

Contacted the Grand Turk CC and received a prompt response that the bookings for cabanas are only through the cruiseline.

I contacted Carnival shore excursion people beacause the cabana rentals do not show up for our particular cruise.  I was told that the site is still being updated and shore excursions are being added and altered for the ports of call that have been changed.  This should be completed by the end of July.

We are leaving St. Thomas at 4 instead of 6 so the afternoon, 1-5 excursions are supposed to be altered but the site currently shows the original times.

i am happy to report that despite the port change, we had an amazing time in grand turk.

there are a lot of new things open there that were not the last time we visited, so this port is slowly but surely becoming multidimensional.  there are things to do now outside of just going to margaritaville.

have a great time, jimswims!

Thank you!  We leave 2 weeks from today on the Miracle.  Please share any details you have about the Miracle and your cruise when you have a chance.  I hope you had a great time.

Trish, could you give us some examples of the new things to do? I'd like to visit there someday, just haven't had it on any of our itineraries . . . yet.

Our editor got in today from Tampa. She was at some big publishing thing and came back with all kinds of freebies. I grabbed the official Margaritaville mouse pad. :big grin:

well, more and more is being opened each day.

there is a new beach bar/cafe right next door to margaritaville that is now open (i believe it is called the beach cafe, but i am not 100% sure as we did not stop at it), then next to that, just a tad further down the beach is a place called jack's shack.  it is a bar but also has tables with umbrellas, and lounge chairs and snorkling equipment for rent (snorkling is right off the beach in front).  there are also some other "motorized" rentals available there thru "oasis divers." (all of this is within walking distance of the ship).

the shops in the pier area are finally staring to get fitted and are opening for business.  among some of the newer stores is a pirana joes and a del sol, but the del sol store was quite small and not well stocked (but then again...we were in port with triumph, so i do not know if it was them and us who wiped out the store, or if they had been wiped out for days).

the cabanas are finally open at margaritaville (they were not the previous 2 times we were there).  they are fairly close to the pool, so there is not much in the way of privacy, however, they are decent in size, offer a safe place to keep your belongings and a table and chairs inside to eat, and 2 lounge chairs on the deck in the shade, an outdoor shower, and have private waitress service (i liked ringing the bell to get drinks:P).

i cannot tell you how much they were b/c i did not pay.  i was at jack's shack most of the day and was invited to this cabana by people on our cc roll call who we were hanging out with.  i wanna say they said it was $60 or so, but i am not sure.  repete (scott) may remember.   i will ask him, or better yet, i will ask the people by email, lol.

the flow rider is there and is new, but we did not do that.  it's location ruined a previously gorgeous view though (but it is still very pretty there).

they are building new condos all along the beach area (beyond the beach bar/cafes).

the place is starting to boom.

i am guessing that soon it will be one of the most preferred ports.

Thanks for the info! We like little beach bars like Jack's so I'll have to remember that if/when we ever get to Grand Turk.

LOL What fun! I've always wanted to try geo-caching something on a cruise ship, preferably in a stateroom. :P

i emailed the people we were with about the cabana.

it was $99 for the day.  we were in port for 5 and 1/2 hours (from 1-7; back on board by 6:30).

they got it for $74 though because the dh participated on stage in a port talk thing.

We're taking a different tack in August -- go straight to the jeweler (only one shop!) and up Paradise Point for Bushwhackers. That's it. We'll see how that works out, and maybe repeat for December. :big grin:

becky, have you done st. john yet?

repete had it all worked out, so he can give you more info, but we did st. john (from st. thomas) on our own (we went with repete and his family to trunk bay), and we were there for a long time.

we kept waiting for the ship excursion to show up.  ours didn't show up until very, very late, and they weren't there long at all.

princess' (i don't which ship) excursion also came after we arrived (but before miracle's), and left quickly (much earlier than we did).

it wasn't cheap to get there, but for the cost, i was very glad that we went on our own instead of with the ship simply because we got to be there for double the time.

we took an early ferry out of redhook.  the cabfare from the pier to the ferry terminal was $10 pp (we are a family of 5, so right there, back and forth was $100), then the ferry fare (didn't see what dh had to pay for that but can find out), then the cabfare from cruz bay in st. john to trunk bay was $6 pp.

there is an admission charge to get into the beach (i think it was $8pp, children free), but we arrived so early that we didn't even pay (no one was there to collect it).

there are chairs and snorkle gear available for rent.  there are showers and a snack bar.  the seagulls were unrelenting with the food though.

it is a beautiful place.  if you wld like to see pics, i wld be more than happy to share.

it takes quite awhile (travel time) point to point, so acct for that.  but it doesn't seem that long because all the while you are really getting to sight see.

We still have not been able to book the cabana on line.  It is not listed when I pull up the shore excursions when I log in.  Carnival said that I can only book this on board the ship.  The people that I spoke with said that this is only the case with the Miracle.

Nope, haven't been. I'll have to consider that for January. (It looks like December's cruise will be cancelled. :( ) But if I did that, I wouldn't have any time to add to my jewelry collection! :P

i am not sure if you can book it in advance.  i believe they didn't book until they were on, but i do not know if this was the reason why, or if they simply decided to do it last minute b/c the dh won the discount.
