| Ok now that Carnival has changed our itinerary yet again I have decided that since we are not going to Monaco I will just hang out on the ship in Cannes- we will go in to port and walk around a bit but with all the nine hour tours we are doing it might be nice to have a private at sea day. I was thinking the pools would not be crowed for once- my husband said he heard that Carnival closes their pools when in port. I can't believe that would be true, I mean I know the shops and casinos are closed but the pools and restaurants are open aren't they? We only sailed carnival once 16 years ago so I have no current reference. On all our other cruises I have done things in port so I don't know if princess etc closed the pools but I would think not.

Good question. I would assume they would be open because so many people don't get off in port. All the CCL ships I've been on have the pool open during port days. That's the only real time to enjoy the pool without a lot of people. And I would imagine the dining room or the buffet would be open at some time. To make sure, I would call CCL and maybe your TA.
Let us know what you find out!

Well I will find out in a couple of weeks, I did call carnival they are so clueless over there it is not funny, they still didn't even know my ports had changed. I am my travel agent and I guess she (me) is useless since she does not know the answer lol. I called twice in fact the first person said they close the pools on port days to drain and clean them (sounds reasonable I guess) but then I figured I would check again as it is a 12 day cruise and only four sea days so that would mean the clean the pools eight times? The second person said the pools are open except late at night every day, so who knows?
This whole carnival process has been a headache, I only cruised with them once before and it was a disaster, I am wishing I was going on Holland America or Princess instead- oh well at least soon enough I will be in Rome :)

I have never been on CCL, but on RCCL the pool is open while in port. I bet they are on CCL, too.

| I've never seen the pools closed while in port on Carnival.

| Thanks, so that is going to be my plan, just tender in to take a peak at Cannes and then have a day at the pool with actually some room and quiet. One thing about this itinerary it is pretty intense, and the tours we have planned are LONG (talking ten hours) so I will really like to just chill out for a day.

I did the same thing on my Med cruise several years ago. It's so port intensive, that I just needed a "time-out" day on the ship. My DH went on a tour in Ephysus (sp?), and I laid out by the pool and relaxed. It was so nice to have 3-4 hours by myself when everyone else was off the ship.
It was heaven!!!! :cloudnine:

| Well that is my plan- we are going to tender in after the masses debark (maybe have breakfast on our veranda) just to plant our feet on French soil and then go back to the ship. I know the spa has specials on port days so I will get a massage and we will just chill. I know we are going to be so tired as this is a whole different experience than four hour excursions in the caribbean, most of ours are like 8-10 hours and day after day. I am glad we are staying in Rome for a few days after just to be able to drink in the city without a frantic pace.

LOL That reminds me of when I had a whole day to fill when I flew through DeGaul several years ago. Even though I had plenty enough time to take a bus tour of the city, I wasn't hot on the idea of spending any more of my money than necessary in France. So I exited the international terminal, stomped my foot on the ground as if to say, "There! Now I can say I've been in France!" and immediately re-entered the terminal. I had lunch -- where I sat at a table next to the guy on whom the movie "The Terminal" is based -- and got a chair massage to pass the time before my flight. Now I can say, "Been there, done that."
Enjoy your trip, Ann!

| well we ended up actually doing the carnival colors of the rivera tour, very pricey (about 600 for the three of us) but worth every penny, saw Monaco, Cannes, Eze etc. the guys didn't want to just stay on the ship and the pools were not too inviting anyhow, in fact it is the first trip I have been on that I never went in the water once.
