Hi everyone,

I found out today that our April 26, 2009 cruise has been cancelled due to it now being chartered - by whom I don't know.

We have moved to the April 12th cruise, not thrilled about it, but what can you do...We were lucky, we had booked 3 cabins  (for us and some friends) and we were able to snag 2 of the 3 same ones, yea!!!!

So here is a head's up for anyone booked on that cruise. It has also disappeared from their web site

That sucks.  Look at the bright side that you will not have to be on the charter.  The worst kind of charter is one that takes up a huge number of berths, but not all of the berths.

No question, I count us very lucky in the long run; we've got good cabins and everyone was able to change their schedules to fit. And it least it wasn't a couple of weeks or months, so no plane fares involved, yea!

So if we had to get cancelled, we can still able to make the best of it.....

I wonder if it's the University of South Florida Alumni Assn.? When I googled the ship and date, they were the only ones that came up besides travel agencies.

Might be, the TA didn't know, in fact she worked her way thru 2 or 3 cust serv people who had no knowledge of even the cancellation until she could get to the rebooking desk (or whatever it's called) to get us switched over. The agency as of this afternoon still had not rec'd what she says would be the normal email to let them know of the cancellation.

I would assume that a college of that size would certainly have enough alumni to book the ship and I have to say even if they don't book all the cabins, I am happy not to be part of any charter group, too much of a hassle I would think, from eating times, to shows, to shore excursions. I am just thankful I found out early enough to make some decent changes.

I did go over to the DS and looked for a roll call that week to let them know. Checked the roll call posts all the way to October, 07  and didn't see one (might have missed it), so maybe not that many DS people are on it. I was more concerned about letting this group know since I spend so little time over there now.

I hope the new date works out for you. I wouldn't want to be on a chartered ship either. Large groups just do NOT work for me.

That happened to us on our Valor cruise a couple years ago.  They chartered our ship for a Tim McGraw concert.  We had already booked our airfare, and since we had to change the date, our airfare doubled!:flamin:  I'm still pissed about that!  Carnival did not reimburse us for the extra cost, either. I know they don't have to, but I think if they throw people off the ship they should have to cover those extra costs. Or at least offer an onboard credit or something.  We just took the same itinerary for a month later, but not everyone can change their vacation time that easily. We were at least guaranteed our same cabin.

We weren't guaranteed our same cabins, but we did manage to land 2 of the 3. The TA is trying to see if they will give us an OBC, but I am not holding my breath. The 2 weeks earlier will work ok I guess, the only thing is DH wants to scuba dive and he was a little concerned that April 26th would be a little choppy and they might cancel the dives, so now he is more concerned with the earlier date, but you can't predict the currents or the weather, so it's a gamble no matter when you go.

He is still ranting about how cruise lines allow this to happen, but since he works in civil service and therefore not in the "real" world, there is no comprehension about the power of the almighty dollar!

Sorry to hear about the change but what can you do?  Sounds like you made lemonade out of the lemons.  I have a special place in my heart for the Legend...my very first ever cruise was on the Legend out of NY on a brief CTN.  I loved the ship and would gladly sail her again.

Ciao,

WaWW

Please take lots of pictures! We sailed on the Legend in 2004 but my camera was damaged so I have no pictures to look back on and remember our cruise.

oh no!  that stinks!

i wld be devastated.:(  many times, i pick the sailing only b/c there are days within it that enable me to go (school closings, etc.)

i hope the new dates work for you.

do they give you any benefit (like an early booking rate) if you had used that or a one day sale for the cancelled cruise, or do you just have to book at the rates in effect as of the day of rebooking?

We rescheduled for the April 12th cruise (no idea at the time that was Easter Sunday to further complicate things). The price was higher for that week, but Carnival guarenteed our original price to the TA and the new invoices did reflect the same price as the original cruise prices.

However, to further add to the whole "I hate college alumni associations how dare you charter my cruise" society, I have since found out that there was only 1 or 2 ships in the ports on our original date and the new date has 4 ships plus ours in ports. Why I even checked, I have no idea, I should have known that week would have more, I guess I am just a masochist! It could be worse, we have been in Grand Cayman and Cozumel with more ships than that, so we have learned how to work around the crowds. It just adds fuel to DH venting about how he hopes no one will book the charter and the alumni association will go bankrupt over this.

BUT we are still going on a wonderful cruise with a great itinerary and good friends so it will be fun no matter what!!!!!!

Here's some more news - the ship was actually chartered by a "swingers" group.  Visit their website and yolocruises.com

As I said we're on the week after they are - we should get some interesting stories from the crew

I don't know... it doesn't sound half bad :lmao1:

Some things you should know:

• Nudity will be allowed at all pool areas and spa tubs while you are on board the ship. Nudity is not allowed in any other public areas.

• Sexual acts will be permitted in designated playrooms and your own staterooms.

• Special Themed Lifestyle parties will be provided at which nudity will be allowed.

Gives new meaning to grope cruise.

If I'm on the next cruise, I'd want to know where the "designated playrooms" were, and hope the heck they were cleaned THOROUGHLY!  :animatedwink:
