I was contemplating moving on up to a Cat 11 until I saw the location of the cabins. They are all the way forward on a high deck. How's the motion up there?

Is upgrading to a suite really worth the extra $$$? We're in connecting OVs right now and I'm not sure if I'll really miss that balcony or not. Other than having the balcony, what makes it worth the extra money?

I've only had one Cat. 11 and that was on the Miracle. The extra space was really nice and there were only the two of us. Oh, and we didn't pay for it. We got bumped out of our 8C facing aft to this one. Not a bad trade! ;)

I had cabin V26 on the Sensation. The balconies are really small - and you look down onto the lido deck. But - I LOVE my balconies!

The cabins are about the same size as a balcony cabin on the larger ships. They are not really suites. High on the ship doesn't bother me - in fact it is my preference (I am the same with hotels - high floor please) because I love the view.

If you can afford it - I say go for it. Just remember that some of the V deck cabins are obstructed views because the life boats are up there. And they are not very private because people walking the lido can just look up and there you are.....

If I could swing it I would try a cat 12 on the Fantasy class ships - but honestly I can see paying the full price as they are DOUBLE+ the cost of an OV. Now if they upgraded me.....:big grin:

Here are some pics of V26 (Sensation) - maybe they will help you decide:

And looking forward while standing on the balcony:

I agree with Kathy, the Cat 11s on Fantasy class are pretty small. And the balconies are not private. Nice room though. We usually book suite GTY and end up in a 12. Just lucky I guess.

You are lucky - I have a hard time finding any sailings I can take that have the suite GTY available. Do you book really far out?

Nope, usually find em on VTG or travelocity a couple of months out. The only time we do that is for the short cruises.

You pose a really good question in regards to value. Our first cruise was on Celebration in an OV. Since then, we have had only Balconies. I guess I too have become guilty of becoming a "Balcony Snob". ;) But our love for having a Balcony is the main reason that we really haven't looked very hard at going on a Fantasy Class ship. I just haven't been able to justify spending the extra $$$ when I can choose another Class for so much less.

But I'm guessing that when we finally do break down and book a Fantasy Class ship, I will probably bite the bullet and step up for one.

Thanks guys! The pics are great. Is the balcony smaller than a standard type, like a Cat 8A? I suppose you all are spoiled with those 9A wraps! lol It seems like the Cat 11 is very similar in size and layout to the 8A we had. Maybe it's just my perception?

I eliminated the Cat 12 out of the running because we couldn't get a military discount on them. We'd be paying over $1000 more. In no way could I justify that amount of money.

I'm sort of on the fence still. I'd love to have the opportunity to just step out to fresh air, but then again the kids might have us running the outer decks all day anyhow! lol

To me the Cat 11 is exactly like an 8A - only it has more wood trim - LOL. Otherwise no different. If you can get a good price go for it - but if it is almost double what you are paying for an OV, you should think hard. I am not kidding - the balcony has room for 2 chairs with about 1 foot to walk in front of the chairs. It is very narrow. Not like the balconies on the larger ships at all.

Now if you can find a deal like Jess did - and get a STE GTY - then it might be worth it!!

Those cabins look really small compared to the Cat. 11 we had. BTW, I'm a balcony snob too. :big grin:

That's why I'm thinking hard. (Shhh...don't tell that I was doing that!) It would be darn close to $1000 more to book in a suite. Thought about GTY but we would have to have two cabins if we ended up in a Cat. 11 because of the kiddos. They're too young to take the risk of having them in a cabin far from us.

I knew it was going to happen; I'd end up joining the Balcony Snob Club! :D Our first cruise was in a balcony cabin and now I'm not sure I want to give that up!

Don't hold me to this, but I have read somewhere that if you book suite GTY with 4 people, they automaticaly bump you to a 12. I can't remember where I saw that. If you want all 4 of you in the same cabin that is. A cat 12 is a pretty big cabin too.

I'd definitely take a Cat 12! That's interesting to hear. Although, there are 5 of us, so I don't know how that would roll.

So what happens if someone actually ponies up and books all the Cat 12's?

Good question. Not sure if they would squeeze 5 in a 12 or not. You've got me on this one. LOL They have inside cabins up by the cat11s though.

here's the scoop on fantasy class suites (this ONLY applies to fantasy class vessels):

cat 11s are very diff from cat 12s on that class.  cat 12s are much more spacious with jacuzzi tubs.  actually pretty sweet cabins.

IF you have more than 3 people in your party, do a suite guaranty.

cat 11s can only accomodate 3 people.  so... if you have 4 or 5, you will automatically get assigned to a cat 12, midship to slightly forward location, on upper deck.;)

this way, you get the cat 12 at the lower guaranty rate.;)

That's a great tip T. I will have to keep that in mind, because the pics of the Cat 12 look like they are pretty nice.

Keep it up and I may just give in and book a Fantasy Class pretty soon. ;) The Cat 12s sound like they would be much prefered to the Cat 11s.

Here is the problem I have had - I have searched and searched (for weeks actually) and I can't find one sailing that is offering  STE GTY pricing. If you find one - please, please let me know.

they are.  and mine wasn't even redone when i was in it, and it was still awesome.

the inspiartion which just came out of drydock with the evolutions of fun enhancements has the cat 12s all redone.

bro was on it recently.  said it looks great.

Keep it up and I may just give in and book a Fantasy Class pretty soon. ;) The Cat 12s sound like they would be much prefered to the Cat 11s.

Oh yes, they are. Cat 11 has a stand up shower with the azz grabbing curtain LMAO. Cat 12s are almost double the sq. ft. and the balconies are a lot bigger. And the redone 12s on the Inspiration are great.
